Those ‘in the know’ seem to think IE has a few security issues,I am just playing safe LOL

But I have the MS firewall and a very expensive Protector/Anti-virus. I see no need to change from IE. After every net session I clean up with CCleaner. The only virus I’ve had was my own fault when downloading a file.

If I needed to be faster because I may lose £10,000 on the market in the nano-second of saving, then I’d check on the speeds of such things…but I don’t so I won’t.

Please explain what is wrong with IE.
Every page I search for is found and opened in less than a second.
What else do I need a browser for, if not that?

Just resurrecting this thread,I am now using Chrome…I started to have a little trouble with firefox – also firefox always seemed quite slow on my PC !!
Chrome seems to be fast, although I will admit I do not like its layout (almost too stark)
I see there were a few comments about chrome ‘phoning home’ too much…any updates /advice about that ??

The only problem with changing your Browser is having to re-instate all your favourites again!

If the browser allows, you can import (copy) your bookmarks from your current browser to your new one.

I am experimenting with the no-longer-updated Netscape Navigator 9.

TT I’m intrigued.

Why is this so important to you?

People use whatever they are comfortable with. Do any of us really care about minor differences from one program to the next in something so unimportant as a web browser? They all do the job, they each have different ways of doing it.

Your evangelical zeal for one browser seems a little…. sad?

Moggy

I know.

It’s just that it seems like Opera is a superior, yet underrated browser, in my opinion.

You’ve given me plenty of reasons to think you’re a little sad, Moggy, yet sad is exactly what I see you calling other people more and more these days.

Each to their own.

Paul

That’s a personal comment to which you are entitled but doesn’t answer the question – why is there a degree of passion about the love or hate for different browsers. As Moggy says, you find one you like and you use it. No big deal, is it?

I think I would echo that – it does, as you say, seem a bit zealous to identify so strongly with one or another.

Might seem strange but I use Safari on my laptop, which is not a Mac…!

Nothing strange about that at all. Before I bought the iMac I was using Safari on my laptop to screen on JP because it ran better than IE. It runs like a dream on this beast of a machine, but then again, it should do! 😀

I tend to use Camino as my primary browser – Safari next then Firefox.

Also have Opera, Omniweb, Shiira and Stainless installed on various machines.

Can’t remember when I last fired up Internet Explorer (as MS stopped supporting Mac versions I still have 5.1 on a computer somewhere)

True enough. That just happened to be the first quote I could find on a reputable IT security website.

I first became aware of the potential privacy implications when I checked my firewall logs after testing the initial release of Chrome for a while. What I saw prompted me to a) remove Chrome from my PC and b) do a little more digging.

At the end of the day it’s your PC and your privacy, so if you’re happy with Chrome then fair play and good luck to you. 🙂

I am reliably informed that once you have deleted the search history no record of it is held by Chrome, which is what I had always believed to be the case. Chrome would naturally maintain that their systems are more secure and better than their competitors.

No doubt others would dispute it but as in so much of what happens in cyberspace, do we really know? At the end of the day we all live in a world where we have few secrets and thatn will nevdr change.

Within a decade we will be accessing everything via our “phones”, although the mobile phone element will have become virtually irrelevant.

But, for now, as you say, I am happy with Chrome and will stick with it. I am also extremely pleased with my Android phone and reckon that Google is ready for the battle on two fronts – Apple and Microsoft.:)

I love using Opera more than IE and Firefox these days. I’s simply the best. Trust me.
