Found this whilst scanning old negatives that haven’t stood the test of time very well. What do you think?

Got another clue coming up…..

Sold to Charles Church, thats when the hangar collapesed on it, at Woodford i belive?? Now owned by kermit Weeks and in store at FofF.
Yep, Woodford.
Roofing Contractors put a trillion tons of walkboards across the Roof struts…which were only meant to hold the weight of the roof.
Other A/c were damaged too, but I can’t remember which ones.
As for the scanning of poor negatives, it’s worth spending the time in Photoshop with the clone stamp or the healing brush, do the contrast/brightness corrections too.
I’ve just spent about 40 hours, (An hour a night for 2 months ish) tidying up a scanned picture of G-ALUN.

…hope they’re of interest!
Are you kidding? Shock factor on the Lancpictre was a 10! It Left me drooling over my keyboard!
Oh Poor old KB976 the once flyable and last lancaster to cross the pond under her own steam! Now remaining in parts and pieces in different countries!

The Shackletons’ fate was even worse though.
I may be wrong, but I think that the nose section of the Shack was saved and is still in this country
Was a great place in a lovely setting, and was what started off my interest in historic aviation.
I remember flying in to one of the last airshows there back in the 80’s to find the Lanc sitting outside repainted in full camoflage. It carried out engine runs during the day – I think all 4 Merlins were turning ,but I can’t be totally sure.
If you go to the photo section on “airliners.net” and type in Strathallan in the search engine, you’ll find a few images of the collection over the years.
Sadly missed 🙁

I think it was just a matter of £sd – the collection was owned by Sir Hugh Roberts, but it became a severe overhead and most of it had to be sold off.
The two original pictures were taken in 1974 of the Hurricane that was indeed lost in a fire in CWH, and the Lancaster that flew over from Canada, G-BCOH, only to be severely damaged in a hangar collapse, although I believe the cockpit has survived. I have a complete photographic archive of the whole collection as it was in 1974/75 on colour slide – I’ll post a link to Flickr when I (eventually) upload it!! Thanks for your reply! J

IIRC had the radome removed and sold to the States – think its airworthy
TT
Shame, would have been an unusual survivor and exhibit if retained in that TBM-3W layout. The Shackletons’ fate was even worse though.
Lovely evocative shots by the way Uuoret, and scanned really well for slides. Just reminds us about the wonderful and varied collections we had in this country, and the efforts that some individuals went to to collect these aircraft. I think it was great that people could obtain an Avenger in those pre-everything has a huge value days, and display it in a field, more interesting to look at, though not so good for the airframes.

They had an RAF Comet 2 which suffered an undercarriage collapse on the delivery landing
As it was still in the hands of the RAF it was repaired and after the museum closed it was eventually scrapped with the nose going to the Gatwick roof painted in BOAC colours
