Now that 9 Chinese Airlines are being meged into 3 main ones( Air China, China Eastern and China Southern), which independent airlines are going to be left? The only one I can think of is Shanghai Airlines. Any thoughts people?

RE: What will be left?
Ofcourse the safety standards will improve…thats the whole idea of the mergers. Plus it will be easier to operate the airlines once they are merged.

RE: What will be left?
I wonder if the safety standards are going to improve for these airlines once the merger goes through?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-10-02 AT 05:50Â PM (GMT)]Confused? we ain’t even started yet…
China Airlines isn’t Chinese. It’s Taiwanese. Or from the non-Communist China, if you prefer.
As in, not from the People’s Rebublic of China (generally known as China, although it’s communist), but from the Island off the PR China, which lays claim to all of China, ie Taiwan. Confused yet?

RE: What will be left?
There is still going to be 20 regional and local operators left in China after the re-organization.This will mean:
Air China will absorb:
China Southwest
China National Aviation Group
China Southern will absorb:
China Northern
Xinjiang Airlines,
China Eastern will absorb:
China Northwest
Yunnan Airlines.
Between them, the groups will control nearly all international routes and around 80 percent of domestic traffic.
Airline left will include,China Southwest,Far Eastern Air Transport, Mandarin Airlines,Shanghai Airlines,Siuchuan Airlines,Xiamen Airlines and Zhongyuan Airlines as well as a few other minor airlines.
