what would you restore to fly?

as an asside to the import question by DGH, what museum aircraft would you like to see back in the air?. for me i would like to see Hendons lancaster S-SUGAR back in the air. the sight of this superb piece of history in the element she was designed for would be completly awesome,
btw PLEASE!!! i don’t want to start a to fly or not to fly kind of debate 😀

I’d love to see a Saab J-21 in the air.

I’d also love to see the ex-North Central Airlines DC-3 “Old ‘728” (at one point the highest time aircraft in the world), both restored to flight and put back into it’s proper North Central paint scheme (the Northwest scheme on it now is just wrong)

It has to be the mysterious Russian Stirling that we are being wound up about, perhaps we could see it towing a Horsa as well, I’m sure Travis Perkins would do a good deal on large amounts of plywood.
Could be a good Legends next year, following a mock ground attack from Typhoons found intact in Tibet, the Stirling drops off the Horsa on to the Pegasus Bridge that has been purchased from France and re-erected over the far side of the airfield, reached by a tunnel from the Land Warfare Hall. Endless lines of Dakotas will drop off airborne troops led by Richard Todd in his final jump, the German vehicles in the LWH will then roar across the airfield, churning up the grass landing strip and the runway with their tracks, thus preventing the Balbo taking off, but no matter, this will consist of a former Russian Stirling and a squadron of Tibetan Typhoons, much more interesting I think, even though they will have to land at Marshalls.
Sorry, I’m in a funny mood today.

Is this the scenario where a FW-190 that was shipped off to Japan in the latter stage of the war will participate? You know, the one which was shipped off in small crates on a submarine. Which in turn was sunk by a PBY. Somehow all the crates drifted ashore at the same beach in Indonesia last thursday afternoon, just around tea-time. In time to be found by a Flypast forumite passing by who packed them in his luggage to take to the nearest restoration shop? 😀

Well, in dream land I’d vote for ‘Sugar’ out of Hendon too, but she’s SO old…SO precious…and SO knackered!

‘Black 6’ on the other hand really breaks my heart when I see it sat there in the gloom, dusty and slowly dripping it’s vital fluids. Heart breaking.

ANY Stirling would be nice- static would be just fine, though flying is one pipe dream too far!

A Hawker Tempest beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Throw in a Hawker Typhoon and they could do quite a show!

XH558 – or any other Vulcan come to that.

Speaking (more) fancifully I’d like to see a Tempest, Fairey Delta 2, but most of all, Blackburn Skua
