I’ve just read the haunted wartime bases thread & noted one of the replies mentioned Sqn Ldr Jacko Jackson- I worked at Gamston for a number of years & he often used to bring students down on a Nav-ex & for a cuppa.
I found him to be a very wonderful & often comical character, but never got to find out about is wartime career until after I had left. Does anyone know if he is still with us?
I’m also lead to understand that he was the original pilot for the BBMF Lancaster & until recently the oldest pilot of a Lancaster, having taxied NX611 for a number of years, can anyone confirm this.

He was the pilot that delivered the Hastings to NAM and about 8 years ago he was interviewed for NAM’s Virtual Museum CD ROM. IIRC in one section of the interview he mentioned that he flew a PR Spitfire over one of the Atom Bomb sites in Japan at the end of WWII.
The Sherburn Flying Club was the last place I heard he was flying from – this was not in the similar reference on here! 🙂
