Fantastic!

Excellent pic, Moondance! Now you can all see the full extent of my world. Today we shall be travelling across the whole width of the Island to Tesco – but I’ll have to give the car a good check over first.;)
Thanks for the info Ren Frew, I’ll follow that up.

G-SJCH is the reg, and I remember that the first bit stands for Sir John, but can’t remember the rest of his name! Flood, do you know it?

Batbay, search for Irfanview on the forum. Many people have mentioned it before, including myself. It’s on here somewhere!

Go to www.irfanview.com and download the programme (it’s free). Once installed you can use it to view, sharpen, change colours, brightness, gamma contrast etc. and most importantly compress the file sizes to fit onto here and into e-mails.

Once installed click on “file” in the top left corner to open a picture from “My Pictures” on the hard drive. Then click on “image” two options to the right. This opens up a host of options including “resize-resample”.

Click on this and either manually type in the size required or use one of the options on the right. I normally check “800×600” for posting on here as that size fits the page format nicely.

Then click “OK” and save the picture by going back into “File” and selecting either “Save” to save and overwrite it to it’s original file source, or “Save As” to select a different name or file destination for the altered picture.

You will be offered a quality setting option when you save, it’s up to you to experiment with this to find a level that keeps your pictures under 100k for posting. I find that 75% usually works if you can’t keep them under 100k at 100% quality setting.

A Britten Norman Defender 4000 of the Hampshire Police Authority.
It is like this one but with the registration G-SJCH (and this one is from the Greater Manchester Police).

The Defender in police service can stay airborne for over 5 hours
and carries a thermal imaging camera with a live video downlink and can capable of sending images to the officers on the ground or in the force’s control room while in flight.
I’d post a pic of my own but they would all be from negatives and I can’t be bothered to search and put the thing through my neg scanner tonight. Sorry.

Mark and Flood – you guessed correctly – here is a local news item:-

Armed police arrest man in Freshwater
A man has been arrested and bailed after an operation involving armed police in Freshwater. Officers were called to an address in Solent Gardens just before 6.00pm last night to investigate reports of a weapon being seen. A police spotter plane and dog unit were also alerted. A 41-year-old man from Freshwater has been bailed until June on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm.

And you all thought the Isle of Wight was peaceful…….

If it is Boxer – the Hampshire police Defender – it’ll be back to Lee on Solent.

Well he appears to have found a home to go to – maybe given up on Bembridge and spending the night on Southampton.
Could be worse, it’s a horrible night to be out!
