Spitfire IX (PL344) – MONSTER MOVES

it is indeed the 1944 Spitfire IX PL344. Owner Mr Blair brought it to Duxford 3 years ago, as it needed maintainence. In Sept, it was dismantled, put in a frame and placed into a container (the blue one in the picture). It was then driven to Thamesport for a 10 day jounrey back to the US
(late by one day). It was the Hapag Lloyd vessel Hoechst Express that took it to Port Norfolk, VA. Here it was picked up and driven 4 hours to Mr Blair’s hangar in Maryland. After three intensive days of reassembly, it then took to the skies once more……

…i forget what the Polish truck driver was called but he was a very nice guy…..

We filmed the project for MONSTER MOVES on Channel 5. It should be aired in the UK around Summer 2011. The show will get to grips with the engineering involved in such a project and the history behind the legendary aircraft.

What’s In The Container -No43

Container 42 and in that one container 41, all the way down to container 1, they are all different colours and are of Russian Origin, you put them out at Christmas and are simply a modern version of the Christmas Dolls the Russians do :p

I heard a rumour about a book………….

Erlich. Ich auch, aber das war im 2006…

In the BoB film of 1969, Hitler stands in an auditorium in front of the masses of fanatical Nazi supporters and declares, “Er Kommt, ER KOMMT”. ‘The Book’ feels a little like this. That said I am very much looking forward to its arrival.

Bit late there Tim, SL633 is long gone, but another is returning to its owner after a generous stay…)

At least ‘201 gets a playmate and with the 2 recent exports that leaves a bit of room for more toys to be brought in from the cold. 😎

I think I am going to have to buy a book containing the history and whereabouts of the surviving Spitfires. Can anyone recommend a good title?

Data plate special? They’re even doing that to containers now! 😀

Do you think that you would get away with claiming a container serial number was a BuAer serial??!!:D

So what’s in the box?

  • SL633 is no longer in hangar 2
  • There is a container o/s the hangar scheduled to go to the US
  • SL633 has previously been reported as heading stateside

Bit late there Tim, SL633 is long gone, but another is returning to its owner after a generous stay…
Never mind “it’ll be in the book”, it’s in my camera and on my hard drive now…;)
