Whats the A330 like ?

Hi guys.

Hopefully, I find out on Tuesday next week that my flights are booked. I’m travelling from Gatwick to Detroit, then a 15 minutish hop to near Whitman ….. I’m off to Oshkosh for 8 days.

Apparently, I’m supposed to be flying in an A330 with Northwest Airlines. Now, I’ve never flown in such a ‘modern’ airliner and wondered what the insides like, seat pitch, tv etc etc etc.

Any info ?

And yes, I’ll file a trip report with piccies when I get back

Thesaint,

I did a similar thing back in Feb 2001; flew MAN-EWR-IAH and selected a flight on a DC10 from IAH to EWR as Continental were due to retire them later that year.

Matt

Geedee i would take no notice of KabirT’s remark’s, i have flown most type’s in the airbus range(A300,A310,A319,A320,A321), & will later this year fly Virgin A346,& Northwest A333 & A319.
I can honestly say that all flight’s in Airbus aircraft have been enjoyable & at no time did i feel unsafe.
Over to you KabirT????????.

I am not basing my comment on air. I have flown the A330 a few times myself and didnt like that aircraft one bit. My worst flight from comfort level till now has been on Swissair A330, a horrid 6 hours. It is just my opinion, you should take both the positive and negative parts of an opinion related question such as the Geedee has asked. If someome doesent like the A330, you would sadly have to live with that.

Gary,

Sorry to report bad news but the Gatwick-Detroit flights are operated by the venerable DC10 until the end of October. Most(if not all) the A330s on transatlantic are operating into Schiphol at the moment. This site lists actual a/c that have operated flights upto 2 days ago: www.lhr-lgw.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

Regards,

Matt

Thanks for the info Matt.

I was quoting details from the website that is organising the trip to Oshkosh…..”Flights are form London Gatwick airport with Northwest Airlines (on their new Airbus A330) to Detroit, with onward connection to Appleton. Alternatrively, if KLMuk or KLM fly from your airport, why not fly via Amsterdam…….etc etc”.

Not fussed realy either way, but would prefer to fly in an airframe that isnt quite as old as me !. All the trips I did back and forth from Cyprus when I was there for three years was in either the RAF Tristar’s or the Queen of the Skies, the VC10 and they aint spring chickens any more !.

Ideally, I’d like a window seat in front of the wing and a bit of leg room, dont want much really

dc10fan,surely that’s not bad new’s at all to fly in a fine aircraft like the DC10( i have flown Laker, Canadian, Northwest) & i love them. I will be flying LGW-DTW-MIA, MIA-MSP-LGW in November, all Airbus aircraft except the last leg which is a DC10 which i am looking forward to as i did not anticipate crossing the Atlantic in a DC10 again!!!!!.

My bmi A330 flights were the most comfortable i’ve ever had. So quite compared to a 777 i’d been on.
Enjoy!

Out of all the aircraft types I’ve flown on, the A330 remains my favourite! 🙂
Northwest’s are supposed to be some of the best around just now because they are so new.
