Just wondering on the status of the A-20 ? Been out of it for a while , but have a real soft spot for the WWII twins.
Many thanks,
Willie

Blimy the pikey scrappers have been at it!
No, the family tragedies at Precision Aero at Wangaratta have caused delays.
It is making steady progress.

Yes it was and to the best of people’s knowledge the Snowdonia bits were scrapped so it should be just the forward fuselage.
The link in Airfixtwin’s post (repeated below for clarity!) states that “the part in the photo” – unclear which one – actually ended up in Norfolk in 2011.
I certainly hope so as in 1994 the section with the undercarriage leg was still quite impressive. Anyone know any more?
I believe the local ATC salvaged the centre section wreckage circa 1974, but where it’s gotten to since…

So was Mr Nutt’s rig the forward fuselage of 43-9628 with bits of Z2186 and was this previously with the Douglas Boston/Havoc Preservation Trust? If so has this gone now to Redhill or to the RAF Museum? Having seen a photo of it on another thread it looks like quite an impressive exhibit if it was ever put on public view.

Not a very good photo. But its the wing of the Boston Z2186 on Carnedd Dafydd Snowdonia. taken in the late 1960’s.

It would be interesting to know what progress has been made with the RAFM example.
When Mr Nutt still had the collection of Boston / Havoc components he used to hold occasional open days. How he managed to squeeze an aero engine, undercarriage etc into his domestic premises heaven only knows – there was also a pair of wings on the patio – a real; treasure trove. I only visited once.
So far as the Wings Museum goes – I went there for the first time a couple of months back and was most impressed with the whole set up. Well worth a visit. I was truly surprised at how much from an A-20 is displayed and all put into context.

I recall reading mid 2013 was targetted/expected for the RAFM example to be complete and ready for display?
The was a “Boston/Havoc” preservation group in the Uk a few years ago with some sizable chunks of airframe, some (and happy to be corrected) were scrapped (I believe? – again, happy to be corrected)

To get back to the topic; does anyone have an update on the status of the RAFM A-20?
By: nostalgair2 - 18th December 2012 at 13:42
Yeh i reckon its the snowdonia machine i saw, he had pics of a Chinook dragging chunks of it down to a more practical height.Quite some set up, and all quite by chance just being in the right place at the right time.

From memory the A-20 forward fuselage went to the RAFM -some of the Snowdonia machine went to the scrapman.

Im sure the guys name was Dick Nutt, (honestly!) He had the undercart rigged up so it retracted up into the roof space and im sure he had both engines and a fair chunk of fuselage and wing section too, would love to know what happened to it all!

I have seen pics of that wreck before, thanks for sharing, and have heard of the other remains too, most interesting ! So, what about the one the RAFM has,Big – youknowwhat ! (don’t want to cause ripples ! ) Has it been crated and buried in a pit for future preservation? Couldn’t resist, sorry, will get me coat !!!

Whilst on the subject of A-20s, I met a bloke who had the remains of one in a sort of purpose built bungalow in Leicester somewhere, any ideas if its still extant?
Yes it is…and looks amazing.

Did anything become of the remains of Z2186 that crashed in Snowdonia.
Sizeable parts recovered…where are they now?
