Looks like an old recessed runway light fitting, impossible to tell which type exactly as it appears to have an iron plate bolted across it.

Hi i can confirm that there is no other writing on it , there is electric wire going into the side of the unit which makes me think its a type of runway light:confused:

Hello, now realising this is not a Goose neck flare…… i’am asking if you have any ideas just what it is ? This was found along the old runway at RAF Upwood, it has the details AMWD type P6/3 written on it.

many thanks Matt;)

If you are able to, please remove all the other grass/moss. There may be more writing on the periphery.
AMWD stood for Air Ministry Works Department. So this thing could be as simple as a water pipe junction through a wall.

Umm wondered what it was too……was at Popham yesterday morning in the Auster III and a number of Yak50s and the Fiat flew over forming up to go into Farnborough. From where I was standing (far far away), it looked like a P2. But now I know!

I bought it as recovered in late 1941 from a Boulton Paul Defiant

More like recoverd in 1951 from an Avro Shackleton (and no doubt many other types). See attached piccy.

Any chance you’ll be able to get your money back? 🙁 😀

Thank you.

I bought it as recovered in late 1941 from a Boulton Paul Defiant. I’ve been trying to check its authenticity.

It looks like the radio altimeter in the pilots notes for the Beaufighter TF 10 dated 1946. It is just the display guage the radio altimeter is quite a bulky looking item in the pilots notes bolted onto the port side comeing. Hope this helps

Thank you but I was hoping for a bit more info!

Would this instrument have been used as early as 1941?
