Really haven’t got a clue what this is for or what it was even used on. Totally out of my depth on this one.
Some sort of gauge with the words STERN GLAND behind the needle. Has apart number 36182/242 ?
Also bears the crown AM mark on the back of the unit.
Any one any ideas ?

Could this be converted war surplus? I can’t see the expected screws holding the dial face on so I wonder if it is stuck on top of the original dial face.
The logo under the pointer may give a clue.

Of course, I could be completely wrong! But I would hazard a guess that you are probably completely right in this instance. 😉

If I’m not mistaken, a/the stern gland is the seal around a marine propeller shaft which prevents the water coming in.
It was packed with an impregnated asbestos material and could be tightened as part of the maintenance procedure as it wore and became slack. If overtightened the seal would heat up and could even catch fire and damage the prop shaft so the temperature of the stern gland was very important.
Perhaps the gauge is from an RAF ASR launch?
Of course, I could be completely wrong!
