What's to be seen in Perth?

Having seen Moggy’s thread about Crete, can anyone enlighten me please to what Historics there are in Perth, W.A. I last went in 1996.

I’m due to go in November to see rellies and am hoping to take the kids to the Museum to see Lancaster NX622 ( their Great, Great Uncle was Navigator Jack Warner of the Dambusters) but I want to know what else can be seen?

Many thanks Rad.:)

No longer there, unfortunately – the Port wanted the buildings back. Some of the vehicles rotate to York.

Thanks for the update, would hate to think I’d sent some one on a wild goose chase !!

The Silver Centenary at the Beverley museum has (to the upset of the locals) now flown and I think is based at Jandacot. The Royal Aero Club at Jandacot does Tiger Moth flights over Perth – you’ll be surprised (in a good way!) at the price compared to the UK! Bull Creeks is a must, and if you like cars Whitman Park also has a museum. If you’re into trains check out the museum at Bassendean – easy to get to as it’s right net to the rail line to Midland.

If you fancy a drive there is an interestingly painted Vampire on a pole in Gnangara.

Have a look here:

If you go to Fremantle I recommend dining at Little Creatures – good beer, great food and excellent, kid friendly atmosphere.

If you’re heading for Fremantle, try the motor museum as well. Well worth a look.

Perth W.A.

A few highlights in Perth of an aeronautical or military nature:
– Bull Creek Museum – apart from the Lancaster also has a recent “loan” of a USN PBY Catalina. (Aircraft was restored in the US and shipped to Perth by the US Navy for a PBY Museum. While that new building is being planned, the aircraft is being exhibited at Bull Creek.)
– Royal Aero Club at Jandakot Airfield in Perth does joy-rides in Tiger Moth (and possibly Boeing Steerman or Bucher biplanes – though the latter may be via special arrangement)
– Panama Jacks (aero-maintenance and warbird restoration) have in the past owned, housed or maintained P-51D, T-6, Iraqi-Fury, L-39 amongst others. Though I believe most have been sold or re-located in the past 5-6 years. It may be worthwhile checking their website, or those of other businesses in Jandakot to see what else might lurk in a hanger, or contacted to see if a visit might be possible.
– Small aircraft museum at Beverly – about 1.5 hours drive outside Perth (NE) has DH Vampire on a stick and a local 1930’s vintage “home-build” inside a one-room museum.
– Cunderdin airfield – about 2 hours drive NE – ex RAAF WW2 B-24 airfield, still operates glider joy-flights (and biennial airshows…last one planned fell foul of the GFC, and was cancelled, not sure if any more are on the horizon)
– Maritime Museum at Fremantle (as previously mentioned)
– Army Barracks Museum at Fremantle
– Motor Museum at York (near Beverly)

It would be best to google the events/websites and check the current status of this information.

And I also reckon you should have a look at the maritime museum in Freemantle which is a neat place plus the town.
