Well spotted. I have submitted a complaint online to the BBC as follows:-

“I do not think that it is appropriate for this article to include the particular image of Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, that you have sourced from Getty Images. The reason that it is inappropriate in my view is that in the picture she is standing in front of a map background which is showing the British Overseas Territory of The Falkland Islands with the land mass filled in with the Argentine Flag. Whilst I am aware that there has been a long running international dispute between the British Govt. and the Argentine Govt. over The Falkland Islands, the fact is that it is a British Overseas Territory and not Argentine Territory. Britain and Argentina went to war as a result of Argentina’s illegal invasion of The Falkland Islands in 1982 and as a result you will be aware that the Falkland Islands remains a British Overseas Territory. The photograph you have used could give the impression that the BBC agrees with the Argentine Govt over their territorial claim and could be viewed as disrespectful to the many British servicemen and Islanders who died as a result of the 1982 War, as well as being disrespectful to the British people and The Falkland Islands Government and her people. Your story has no relevance to The Falklands Conflict or to the territorial dispute between Britain and Argentina and the image used could be wrongly interpreted as indicating that the BBC agrees with the Argentine Govts claim to the islands.”

They promise that BBC staff will have site of the complaint within 24 hours and presumably the opportunity to do something about it – it will be interesting to see whether they do anything and whether I get a reply within the promised 2 weeks. I would like to think that our Govt and the Falkland Islands Govt might have something to say about this if they were to see it, but let’s hope that they don’t need to?

Robbo – not a bad idea to send it to the BBC since they are clearly unaware of the official status of the Falklands!!!

Careful! People will be throwing rocks at your car after posting something ‘provocative’ like that! 😉

Not sure I understand the ‘teletubbies’ comment?

The Sun symbol………………………… or so I am told 🙂

I had to look at that picture a few times, as I assumed the blue bits were the sea. Silly me 🙂
