Just being listening to Jimi Hendrix’s “Angel” there which made me wonder what everyone’s favourite tune was for getting smoochy or even indulging in a spot of horizontal gymnastics ?
Answers please ? 😀

Which I am glad to report he did towards the end of an epic three hour, 38 song show in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on Friday night. Last night of the ‘North’ tour, and Elvis clearly didn’t want to go to bed!

I’m glad Declan McManus got a mention. “I want you” is arguably the bitterest, melancholic, twisted and humourous love song ever written. 😎

‘Lady in Red’ – pass the sick bag please, what a load of mediocre bilge with absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever (correct, I have little time for Debugg and his alleged ‘talent’)
As for luuurve songs, after the demise of Stiff Records, Jake Riviera and Nick Lowe were involved with F-Beat Records – Nick’s contention was that, if you couldn’t f*** to it, there was no way it was going to be a hit, surely the ultimate definition of a love song.
Personally, I prefer the darker songs…..Dark End of the Street by Dan Penn, as recorded by James Carr (and many others like Ry Cooder & Richard Thompson) has to be the ultimate song about illicit love (that is, until I saw Elvis Costello doing ‘Either Side of the Same Town’, a brilliant new song in the classic soul vein)
And I typed this before Stuart Maconie’s magnificent demolition of ‘Lady in Red’ on C4 tonight …..”a bad song, sung dreadfully, by a bloke who you would rather not have on your TV”

“Have you ever needed someone so bad” by Def Leppard has particular relevance in my life at the moment 🙁

Heathen bunch. No-ones mentioned:
“Lady in Red” by Chris de Burgh
“I’m not in Love” by 10cc
Classic smooch tunes. Both have worked at least once!
Slightly more up-to-date (and less corny) and just as effective:
“Drops of Jupiter” by Train
“Truly, Madly, Deeply” by Savage Garden

I always liked the old soul stuff in my days of love and hapiness. Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, stuff like that. And ‘Born Slippy’ was somehow a very romantic one, but that had probably more to do with a shared experience than with the song itself.
And the totally corny theme music from ‘True Romance’ somehow always makes me melt too. But that’s just happy nostalgia from a bitter man, i guess.

Oh no.
I hate this sort of thing… I always forget what she likes!
A mate of mine made up a mix of ‘Will You’ by Hazel O’Conner with the instrumental break repeated so that the song ended up lasting over 20mins – with just one use in mind; must have worked – he is married now, with three kids.
One of my favourites was the end two songs from The Best Of Everything But The Girl (1996) featuring Tracey Thorn singing with Massive Attack – Better Things running into Protection and providing 10mins of pure bass rhythm with a gentle long fade out. Bliss.
For erotically charged venom then, for me, it has to be PJ Harvey’s Rid Of Me (playing now in the background in fact, BUT I AM NOT MAKING USE OF THE FACILITY – if you know what I mean…;)) or Heela, but I would be happy for anything from her back catalogue in the right circumstances.
The first song I can actually remember being on when we were otherwise ‘indisposed’ was Kashmir by Led Zeppelin.
I am sure others will spring to mind as my subconscious surrenders them…
