Probably most of you out there have many favourites like me, it all depends on the mission. But lets see if we can’t get a thread going on favourites.
First off for me is the Nanuchka III class corvets, small, fast, and really well armed, there’s just something about these ships that says to me, “Don’t mess with this ship”.

Next is the Spanish carrier Principe de Asturias R11 and the RTN carrier Chakri Naruebet 911 which may in all intensive purposes be called sister ships.
The two ships together
RTNS Chakri Naruebet

SNS Principe de Asturias

Apart from the size difference between the two (the Thai carrier being slightly smaller), the best way to tell the difference between the two is by the weapons fit, Spain have mounted their fearsom Merkoa system on their carrier, where as the Thai carrier is yet to be armed.
I also love the Lurssen vessels, especially those of the UAE and Bahrain, they are very well armed, and in the case4 of the Bahraini vessels, also have a helo hanger! These vessels in a different shape, form the backbone of the Singaporean navy, again being very well armed but these vessels lack the Helo facility.

Gotta be the Veer (Tarantul Class) with the 16 Kh 25s, 2 AK 630s and the OTO 76mm gun at 35+ kts!

Gotta be the Iowa class for me, HUGE Hull, HUGE fire power, and looks the mutts nuts

Only for it’s appearence my alltime favourite is the Yamato before it’s refit with additional AAA.
My favourite modern warships are the Sachsen-Klasse, and the Swedish Visby-Class, as well as the Akula submarines. All three are capable designs and look very sleek.
And I really liked this Trimaran design for the British CVF competition.

Here it is: (I think I got it from Koxinga some time ago).
Hmm, it seems I were mistaken, it still has that single missile. I really start doubting about that amount of missiles carried by this ship. I suppose these canisters are just to test-fire from different positions…

Thanks a lot. Next week I’ll try to upload the one I have. She’s at sea with some more missiles ๐

For small craft, on power, it would be Nakat, the Nanuchka III class with 12 Yakhont missiles (test-ship for that missile).
Here you go.![]()

I can see that, but I thought they were going with the whole 48 from the start.
Nope, the 5×8 (with 32 ESSM + 32SM2) has been the intention from the start. It yields an AAW missile load out similar to that of the old Tromp and the Jacob van Heemskerck (L) classes (40 SM1 + 24 Sea Sparrow)
By: GDL - 22nd September 2004 at 02:17
They are supposed to have 5 x 8 cell Mk 41 (for 32 SM2 plus 32 ESSM). They have space and weight reserved for one additional 8 cell MK 41.

Interesting to note that the Dutch LCF doesn’t have all of it’s VLS cells fitted yet.

Interesting and they are putting to sea already, perhaps these are more evidence of the extent of the Dutch Defence Cuts.
As far as future designs go, this design has to be my favourite, the stealth contention for the coverted CVNX program
By: Severodvinsk - 21st September 2004 at 15:51
hmm, the first of the class, Zeven Provinciรซn does have all cells. Seen that myself.
As for the second, Tromp, yes indeed, she is still not finished…

Does anyone have any pices of the UAE or Bahraini Lurssen ships?, I also love these tubs as they are incredible things, having just about everything on them, including a helo
By: Severodvinsk - 20th September 2004 at 20:14
That’s a dirty trick the Dutchies always do. Playing with frigates like they are cars. Or they are incredibily good or they are incredibily lucky, I hope for them it’s the first, cause the second one doesn’t last forever and you really don’t want to bang that ship on the other’s stern!
By: Wanshan - 20th September 2004 at 19:38
As for the ships, I love the dutch LCF lines:
Excellent shot!! Wow! Like it is going to park right there on that heli-deck
By: bring_it_on - 20th September 2004 at 17:06
got to love the 77
