Ok…been a while since the “what your favourite” cheese and chocolate posts…time for a new frivolous post…
So here it comes…
…so what’s your poison? So what/is your preferred alcoholic beverege (yes I know, my spellings gone out the window tonight but I can’t be bothered to crrect it :p )
Me?
In my opinion, nothing beats a good gin and tonic – has to be Gordons and Swheppes though…also partiial to a good
Malibu and coke (Essex girl drink I know, but still rather scrummy)
Like Bacardi Breezers too (not Watermelon flavour though…that’s just toilet cleaner in disguise)
Not really a beer fan (Mr Ashley is though…Bishops Finger and Old Peculiar are his favourites)
Definitely a wine fan though…have comsumed a large quantity of Hardy’s Cabernet Shiraz tonight..will probab;y decide in the morning this was not a good idea but whattever…:p Other wines high on the list of Ashley’s favourites are the Gallo Brother’s Turning Leaf Zinfandel…Hardy’s Grenache Shiraz…and Hardy’s Semillon Chardonnay…yep..last of the big spenders that’s me! π
So…what rates high on your list of good slurps?
Lots of love
Ashley
P.S. I am ever so slightly pissed so pleae excuse spellig mistakes and whatever…
Nighty night
A xxxxxxx

Bit of a real ale snob myself especially the ales from the West country, Hall & Woodhouse and Ringwood. Although living in Essex we have the Ridley’s brewery if I could find a pub near me that sells it:mad:
Have to agree with dhfan re pub’s that only sell lager or those bloody awfull smooth tap beers.
A good Malt Whisky, when I can afford it. Otherwise the supermarket versions have to suffice.
As for wine I do like a nice red especialy Chilean.
I don’t mind a drop of the wife’s Baileys if I have run out of booze in doors, as long as she doesn’t find out π

Real bitter only. Not bothered about the size of the brewery. Some nationals are good, some micros are crap. Good beer is good beer, doesn’t matter who made it.
If I go somewhere that only has lager or smooth beer, I’ll have cider or leave. Don’t mind cider in small doses but they’d have to pay me quite a lot to drink the other stuff.
Love the look of Guinness but can’t stand the taste.
Wine, total Philistine. Haven’t a clue and don’t like it much anyway. Didn’t mind German whites but now find Hock and Leibfraumilch too sweet and the next one down turns my face inside out.
Port, Taylors LBV. Could be a problem as Morrisons have just stopped keeping it, around here anyway.
Smirnoff Blue Label vodka, ideally from the continent as it’s cheaper and stronger (50%), with tonic or orange juice.
Non-alcoholic I know, but also tea, in large quantities.
Going to put the kettle on.

hmmm i missed this topic
Well i’m not really a lager fan (i do work in a pub and drink most of the waste – not drip trays, just barrell changes), but i’m not a fan of carling, as work sell it and i’ve grown off of it, So an Export or K 1664 is always nice, but the 1664 has recently been replaced by stella. On traveeling i do like Labatts in the next village.
My personaly favourites are my Loopy juice Carling Premier – hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm – the texture of a smooth ale, but tasting of lager – what an invention!!
Bottles – smirnoff ice black or red in alcipops – becks as a lager and i dispise Pils or Bud – nastyyyy
Not a bitter fan, although i will have hand pulled Timmy Taylors landlord occasionally, or a Turkey ale (local), and Guiness is saved for once a year – usually March, although this year we made it a bit later than usual due to otherf commitments – St Paddies session π

Excellent topic
As a keen Rugby player I have to say my favourite ‘pub’ drink has to be “Guinness”, it seems to wipe away all the stud marks and black eyes in just a few pints.
At home my misses is kind enough to drown my sore bits with wine, white or red. My fav wine has to be the Italian “Marc Xero” again this can be found in the white or sun-burnt guise, very smooth.
I recently returned from Estonia and I got some duty-free’s including a 80% proof vodka! but the tipple I am enjoying most from there is a “Honey Liqueur” although my misses doesnt share my passion with it as when she was home last I drank almost half the bottle and told her about my un-dieing love for Julia Roberts!! I still cant remember if it was the drink or her that made me fall out of bed.

Laphroig or Highland Park , a touch of water – NO ICE , definately taboo , take a large sip and hold it in your mouth for 30 seconds , swallow then breathe in through pursed lips , after that every other spirit tastes like 5hit , and you will know how to distinguish between malts , highland malts , island malts and blends etc.

In the UK, Beer, mostly.
Usually a decent British ale; the smaller the brewery, the better!
If we’re in our local then it tends to be Veltins, a German lager; or Krony 1664 if we’re elsewhere, in a lager mood and Veltins or Staropramen is not available.
At home, bottles of Pilsener Urquell, cans of Lowenbrau, that sort of thing. No nasty Stella for us – gives us a headache, that does…
In the US, we have acquired a taste for light beer. In the heat here it makes sense – you can drink gallons of the stuff and remain mostly sober…
Wine is expensive in the US so we haven’t had any since being here. At home we drink US/SA/AUS/FR whites and reds, mostly.
Port is always good and G&T has to be made with Bombay Sapphire or Tanqueray…

“…And here is the final result after running the engine for about 5 minutes. The engine itself will run at up to 100000 rpm with exhaust temperatures of around 500 C and noise levels in excess of 125 dBA. The beer is successfully chilled⦔

Before I moved out here, I rarely drank…honest !
I’d have the occassional glass of medium sweet white wine with the occassional sunday roast and thats about it.
Moving on a bit….Dry, medium sweet, sweet, red, white …Tesco’s !…it all goes down the hatch (I have been known to have had at least one bottle of a very cheap …CYΒ£1.20 !… red wine before doing battle with other Forum Frequent Flyers in Combat Flight Sim 2 on the World Wide Wait.
I normally have at least, 2 bottles of C*rlsb*rg or Keo a night when I’m on the net or game playing on the PC. Not cans by the way but BIG BOTTLES.
Take tonight… I’ve allready had 1 C*rlsb*rg and am on my 2 Keo ! (I should point out at this stage that the current temp here is 25 degrees, its just coming up to 23.45 local time and there aint a breath of wind anywere and I’m sat in nothing but a pair of shorts. Hey, the beers cold, tastes infinately better than the coldtap water (Which is room temperature by the way) and I dont drink tea or coffee this time of night.
So there !
Hic !

Great question Ashley :)!!
I enjoy wine (white with chicken and pork and veal and red with lamb and beef).
Gin and tonic (very occasionally).
Orange and brandy (very occasionally).
Port (Christmas only).
My big thing is BEER!! I enjoy some British ales, especially those from the Wychwood brewery (Hobgoblin, Circle Master, Fiddler’s Elbow) and Waggledance is also nice.
I’m off to Dublin on 16th June, so I’m getting into Guinness.
But nothing in the world beats a good Belgian beer. Where should I begin???
Lagers – Maes, Jupiler, Stella.
Lambics – Mort Subite, Cantillon, De Troch, Timmerman’s.
White beers – Brugs, Dentergems, Hoegaarden.
Trappist Ales – Chimay (three types, red top, white top and blue top), Rochefort 8 and 10, Westmalle Dubbel and Tripel, Westvleteren 12 and blond.
Abbey style ales – Leffe Blond, Brune, Radieuse, Tripel and Vieille Cuvee, Tripel Karmeliet, Corsendonk Agnus and Pater, Grimbergen.
Dark Ales – Gulden Draak, Delirium Nocturnum, Kasteel.
Blond Ales – Hapkin, Duvel, Delirium Tremens, Piraat, Lucifer, Kasteel, Sloeber (beautiful beer that!!), Barbar.
Toffee-coloured beers – Bush, Kwak, Straffe Hendrik, De Koninck, Palm, Jan Van Gent.
There are too many others to mention!!!

Guinness or a good draught beer. Usually go for Tetleys.
Sometimes lager is unavoidable π – so I’d go for Tiger or Windhoek by preference.
Can’t do wine after a wine tasting evening 5 years ago. I was ever so slightly drunk – after sipping a glass of wine, everyone on our table was tipping the rest of the glass into a big caraffe. No saliva you understand, just lots of mixed wines. It was nearly 2 pints big by the end. Anyway, a mate and I downed half each. It was really nice, but let’s just say I won’t be repeating it.
By: Snapper - 6th June 2003 at 23:45
Hardy’s Shiraz – ooh la la. Even my Frog of a wife enjoys it!
Beer in a pub – Guinness or Kro 1664
Beer at home – for a treat, osmething Berlgian (hic?)
Gin – Bombay Sapphire, Queen Mum measure. Loverly. Equal top with Tequila (Jose Cuervo Gold).
Umm. Sober. Just a teeny – weeny Stella ta Dad’s tonight.
Eeh, you look a reet ravishing bird tonight Ashley. Where’s the boa?
By: Arabella-Cox - 6th June 2003 at 23:20
Ahh, bless ya… Don’t worry mate, I’m on the way as well. π
Tonight, I’ve been mostly drinking… Boddigntons.
I do like a nice smooth pint. Can’t stand lager, that’s for those foreign Johnnies.
For non-beer drinks, I do like a good Australian or Chilean white, and some French reds are very nice too. Port always hits the spot, but that’s mainly a nostalgia thing (too many Mess do’s over the years… π )
Spirits, not really my thing. Got badly leathered on both Gin and East German Vodka back in the eighties, and up until earlier this year, refused to touch either (although I’m starting to acquire the vodka taste again). Whiskey – Glenmorangie’s nice, but Alastair and the Scots lads have threatened to pour some others down my neck when we’re able to get the next East Fortune bash up and running. Can’t wait! π
