This is why I bought my scanner 🙂 Apart from watching a very special display by MH434 at Shoreham in the mid-Seventies, this was my favourite aviation moment.
The 109K arrives at Duxford with escorts – one of the two ship pictures is slightly blurred because of camera shake caused by nerves/excitement.

The last I heard was that she was ground looped and damaged in a high speed taxy run in Germany a few years ago.

Then the Fire crew ran over the wing…….

Hi I’m new to the forum.
The 109 in question was Hanns Ditte’s 109 G10 replica. Made from a Buchon but with a new tail and a DB 605D fitted. The high tailwheel was to provide better forward visability on take off and landing, taxying. As for unreliability with the engine and if I remember right at the time it was down to oprational considerations.

She’s been repaired since, and very likely flown again, but couldn’t say for certain.
Would love to see this one up close sometime – very distinctive shape in comparison to the others!

AFAIK, the tailrudder is/was originally fitted to night fighter ace Friedrich Karl Müller´s Me 109 G10, in whose colours she´s been painted.
Chris,
The original rudder was offered to him by Müller but it was not airworthy so a new one was built en painted exactly like the original rudder.

Very nice photos, Richard. Thanks for sharing.
The last pic shows the Bf 109 G-6 “FM+BB” (ex Buchon WNr. 156).

I was lucky enough to see both the 109’s alot at Duxford, they both did lots of engine tests and run ups .Black 2 always sounded a bit rougher than Black 6.I did manage to take some video of them both,i will have to dig them out again, happy days.

Nice pics, Flying Kiwi, here are some pics of the G-10 at it’s homebase in Germany. Pics taken by a Flypast Forum German enthusiast. Sorry friend, don’t know your name, but PM me/post on this thread and I will credit you.

North weald, with and without BBMF
By: DazDaMan - 5th March 2005 at 15:16
Excelent photos thank you, does anyone know what happened to the G-10 cause I just remember it at North Weald with the BBMF 😮
The ‘G-10 is still flying with the Messerschmitt Foundation.

well fellas, if we’re lucky enuff we soon might see at least two 109s and a 190 in the european airshow circuit! The german G2 is flying and is simply great, there’s then another one in france who made a static appearance at La Ferté Alais, and the Flugwerk 190 is alive and well too 🙂
Cheers

Very nice.
I’ve shome shots of Mark showing a certain Russ Snadden the cockpit of the G-10 on this occasion. Sadly not available right now, but I’ll seek them out in due course.
Cheers

Thing that always intrigued me, was the length of that tailwheel leg…
The long tailwheel leg is correct for the late 109s, I think. I suspect it was something to do with improving the view over the nose, at the expense of a retractable tailwheel

[QUOTE=Seafuryfan]I’ve just noticed that the pilot’s flying kit looks similar to authentic Luftwaffe garments. Any comments?
Mark used to wear a modern Luftwaffe flying suit & WWII German leather helmet with an RAF H-type mask.
