When are we ever going to learn from past mistakes

The talk about the next generation fighter seems to be shifting into high gear. IMO there needs to be serious discussion about the stupid idea that one size fits all. Going back to the F-111 we saw that forcing both the Air Force and the Navy to accept the same aircraft simply didnt work. Now we have the F-35 that is quickly becomming a trillion dollar fiasco. The needs of an Air Force and a Navy aircraft is widely different. Compromise ruins the airplane for both services.

I hope the Pentagon sees these past mistakes, and lets each branch develop their own fighter.
