He seemed in rather high spirits as he taxied along in front of the crowds before the big finale! 😉

Here is a shot I took of it at the Military Academy at Dehra Dun, in the foot hills of the Himilayas, in India – 29 Feb 1976.

One of my faves, too 🙁
Who was the pilot flying her at the Duxford Battle of Britain show in 2000, on the Sunday?

Sorry to see it go
One of my favourite Spitfires; it was one of our faster jobs. I seem to remember getting the majority of the work done within 6 months!
The day of the 1st flight, I was jammed into the mid fuselage hatch, sorting out the drain from the rear tank. Stephen put his head in – whats this loose pipe?? Quoth I – ‘ I’m fixing it, I’m fixing it!’ Much merriment all round!

It will not be at Chino with the Spitfire IX and the Hurricane but based in Texas (according to theTFC website). Would make an interesting pairing with the Seafire FR47 also in the Lone Star State.

I think it was bought from France by Tom Friedkin & only operated by TFC on his behalf.

Stateside to join Spitfire IX ML417 and Sea Hurricane AE977.
