When our heros have feet of clay

Viet Nam-era Naval Aviation Ace, Top Gun instructor and eight term US Representative from San Diego California, Randy “Duke” Cunningham has admitted to accepting $2.4 million in bribes and avoiding $1 million in taxes in court. Complete details available at LA Times.

A political conservative and generally regarded as a back bencher, Cunningham is the only US Navy Ace (five total kills with two coming on one day) from the Viet Nam era. Although not listed as a consultant on the movie “Top Gun,” Rep. Cunningham cultivated a friendship with actor Tom Cruise during the movie’s filming.

I know there are some honourable politicians,

Name an honourable politician and I’ll bet he/she just hasn’t been caught yet.

Just remember poli = latin for many, tics = blood sucking creatures,

poli + tics = politics.

The problem is that Cunningham, being an ex-US Navy officer, would probably have had very high moral standards for most of his life. It’s the political process which corrupts. I know there are some honourable politicians, but it takes an exceedingly strong minded individual to remain in politics and retain their integrity.

wow – politician in corruption shocker!

it’s no surprise really is it – politics has never been wher you find those with the greatest integrity

You can choose to remember him as an ace or a politician, I know which I will

Read that yesterday. It just goes to show that the temptations of office can be very difficlt to resist.

I found the news rather sad and depressing.
