When the fuel-oil runs out

I have been reading a pile of military aviation magazines from 1999 and am constantly amazed at the number of flight hours listed for military aircraft. Also the fact that everyone and his dog has an air force around the world.

So just how much fuel is used each year by military aircraft? Civilian too, come to think of it!

At this rate, the world’s oil supplies will run out – maybe before the next century. So I’m wondering what alternative power sources could possibly be available when that happens?
