When The Wind Blows

According to the weather people, we are in for some mighty gusts in the next few days. Even though fabric aircraft are almost certainly hangared, they sometimes need to be moved outside, if only briefly.

The photo shows our syndicate Cub which was left unchocked a year or two ago and promply weather-cocked into the adjacent Chipmunk, the wingtip of which punched a hole in the fabric, and bent an internal fitting.

Result; a four figure insurance claim, a/c grounded for three weeks and a partial respray, for want of 2 chocks ( though 6 would be even better).

Yes but it is the owners stupidity, you must prepare your aircraft for the conditions.

Aircraft bite fools.

It’s just the sort of aircraft I want, then again when I do my commercial I could use the money to get a Jet rating and some jet time. (Not going off the subject…)

Also even a basic tie down kit could of prevented this.

R.Weaver, reading the “Bleeding Obvious”. Robert, while I accept your point is valid, I think that is a somewhat patronising and offensive way of putting it. I don’t suppose for one minute it was deliberate and as humans, we all make mistakes. Obviously you don’t, so speaking as an outsider, what DO you think of the human race??!!

This happened at Waltham, where the ground crew take in and out the aircraft for the owners, therfore is might not be the owners fault but the ground crew.

Look past the right strut of the cub and you will see a drawing of Piglet on the fin behind it. I drew that!

AT LAST AN EX-SPERT SPEAKS.
HOW STUPID OF EVERONE ELSE NOT TO HAVE REALISED THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR OWN WIND.TIE DOWNS????? THAT COULD HAVE SAVED IT….
Go and get a jet rating Ruprecht, it won’t be the first time something you are close to has hot air coming out of the rear end.

tell me, do you use reheat when you want to speak quicker?

Come to think of it, I wonder if it was the mighty propwash of ‘Piglet’ that did the dirty deed. Confession, they say, is good for the soul………
