We have all seen motor fuel cost fall at the pump as low as £1.16 from a high of £1.48 or so, and that fall should be even bigger if ‘ Big Oil’ were not so tardy in passing on real falls in the market.
Avgas remains very ‘sticky, ‘ and at White Waltham ( my base) has not shifted at all from £1.99 per litre, and recent correspondence give no real hope for a review. Are prices falling anywhere very much ?
The prices roared up when the cost of Oil was rising, but it seems to be a ratchet, and work in just one direction.
“We are now entering a new era in world oil and we will have lower prices for some time to come,” says Daniel Yergin, the Pulitzer prize-winning author of The Quest: Energy Security and the Remaking of the Modern World. “Oil was really the last commodity in the super-cycle to remain standing.” reports the Daily Telgraph today.
My Piper Cub guzzles 15 litres an hour, and it is even worse in the winter, as the lack of thermals compels me to climb at full power !
Time to buy some jerry cans, and fly on mogas for £18 an hour..

Was at Gloucester the other Sunday and it was 1.49 (still very good though), amazed to see it go down again. I think it’s about 1.50 at the moment at our place although we only buy 5,000 litres at a time, I would imagine places like Glos get through at least ten times that much.

This is more like it.
”Down again for February. With effect from Sunday (1st Feb) Gloucester’s 100LL will be £1.39 inc. VAT, which is 49 pence per litre cheaper than it was this time last year. ”

”FUEL PRICES (White Waltham)
Due to the fall in the cost of a barrel of oil you will be pleased to know that we have reduced the price of avgas to £1.75 per litre.
We will continue to monitor the situation”
A move in the right direction, I suppose. Could do better.

£1.48 litre (inc) at Goodwood and Cheltenham now
Still £1.90 at West London Hero Club :(:(:(:(
£1.48 is a good price, I thought Sywell was good at £1.75.
As for WW, remind me not to fill up there !!!!

Airlines are quick to charge a fuel surcgane before they let you board when prices go up
I’ve yet to here of airline staff handing out cash to pax because it’s gone down.
A while ago when this happened the airlines said that they buy fuel on the futures market so had in fact paid more than the current price. So then, why the charge when it goes up, as they would have bought futures at an older, lower price. They, of course forget to mention that.
These things are always one sided and when they do come down it’s not by much.

Problem with Avgas is before when it failed to meet it’s rating, they used to blend it into motor fuel. With the loss of leaded car fuel they now have to get specialised companies to burn it in a controlled way to prevent contaminants entering the atmosphere.

Let joy be unconfined ! It’s a start, and the gesture is appreciated.
From WLAC today-
”Breaking News……………
In keeping with the spirit of the Festive Season we have reduced the price of Avgas to £1.90 for the month of December.
Let’s go flying!
Kind regards,
WLAC Operations”

Well apparently the price of oil has fallen by 25% over the course of this year and how much has the pump price of road fuel fallen? In this area, about £0.04. So you wouldn’t see much of a drop in the price of Avgas either, but every little helps I suppose. Wycombe charges the same for 91UL as for 100LL. For those who don’t know, 91UL is basically Mogas. Like everything in aviation it costs more than the motoring equivalent.

Wow, really touched a nerve with this one !

Don’t hold your breath on that one. What goes up seemingly never comes down, at least, not in aviation terms or particularly at White Waltham.
The last time I queried prices at WW, I was very haughtily told that being situated so close to London ‘we charge London prices !’
I’m surprised that you’re not operating on Mogas. Is there some specific prohibition on the Cub ? We operate our Rotax on Mogas as specified by the manufacturer and save a lot of pennies – almost enough to pay for a landing fee or two at such places as Blackbushe and Dunsfold !
