When will the air/space barrier be broken in routine flight?

We are privileged to be at a crossroad in time where we are witness to technological advances that would have appeared preposterous even a couple of decades ago.

What does the future hold? More precisely, when will humankind harness technology sufficiently to produce an A/C that would be able to transition from atmosphere to space (undertake short journeys i.e. to the moon) and vice versa in routine flight without compromising on safety or efficiency; especially military aircraft.

How far in time do you see a full-fledged A/C of this description making its first flight? Guess a time-frame relative to current technology?

What would its likely general shape be?

Do you expect NASA to be the pioneer in this case since they do have the best funded overt and covert programs in this direction OR IF NOT which other agency.

What would likely be the fuel that would power such A/C?

What kind of detection/weapons package would one see in such an A/C realistically?

The rigors of space stay are well known with marked detrimental effects to human physiology even with very short stays. Would it be possible to simulate earth conditions for the crew of such an A/C?
