In 1992 when I was 14 my life was RAF, I lived it, breathed it and in ’96 when I turned 18 it was to be my career. I knew every role of every aircraft in service and had thousands of pictures of anything that flew in the RAF.
But when will all of the various aircraft I knew in the early 90s finally have left the RAF?
I realise a good number already have, Jaguar, Buccaneers to name but two but what about the transport aircraft, helicopters, training aircraft?
I know some aircraft are upgraded, Tornado GR1-GR4 but it is the aircrafts OSDs I’m interested in not varients of.

When I left Abingdon in 1989, the OSD for the Jag was 1991. I left the mob in 1995 and joined the MOD as a (un)Civil Servant in 1997 in the Jag IPT and ended up managing the Life Extension Contract which was supposed to take the airframe to 7500 hrs but was then reduced to 7000. At one stage the OSD was proposed to be 2014 but progressively got cut back until its untimely demise last year.
The truth is that the aircraft are getting absolutely beasted and with no prospect of replacement many of them will soldier on with ‘sticking plaster’ solutions.
Perhaps its time to start building Canberras again:rolleyes:

Nobody knows, not even the IPTs. The OSÐ can be revised during the platform life cycle. Look at any older system and you’ll see its already exceeded its OSD after upgrading. My favourite for an old timer is the VC10. Like flying in a time capsule, complete with 1960’s seat belt signs.
