When you can't get your engine to start….

….it’s nice to know there’s always someone to lend a hand at Old Warden!

Anyone go to RIAT Cottesmore in 2001? The Malta Defence Force Islander was there, and the pilot locked himself out of it after arrival……as the old girl has 1970’s car-type door handles, it was a simple matter to call out the RAC, whose somewhat bemused patrolman was able to effect an entry within seconds!

(Then again, could have asked any 15 year old joyrider!!) :p

A couple of years ago at Yeovilton Phil Shaw had immense trouble trying to get the Avenger going, but he succeeded eventually!

Tempremental things engines… We had an AN-2 at a VAC Fly-in at Turweston a wee while ago and they couldn’t get her started… Up rolls a bloke with a Range Rover and an appropriate lead, plugs in and jump starts it as if he’s starting a Vauxhall Viva…

Yes – the Avenger had a lot of trouble starting up again – in fact it didn’t.

This is, I think, the most they were able to coax out of her, after what must have been 10 or more attempts:
