Where are you flying this Summer?

Just a quick question, we’re in mid-July now and if you’re going away this summer, you’re no doubt booked up and ready to go.

So…

Where are you flying from?
Where are you flying to?
Who are you flying with?

etc.. etc.. You get the general idea.

As you all know, I’m flying Heathrow to Bangkok with Thai on 5th July, returning 23 days later. What makes it exciting is the fact that it is my first 747 flight.

Cbstd, UA 935 is LHR-LAX, via JFK, isn’t it?

it WILL be an A320 – the A330s only come into MAN now and again for a visit to FLS Aerospace – otherwise they aint seen in the UK

That very same one, EG. I already have my airfare (Business Class on USAirways) and my hotel via my father’s timeshare exchange. I tried to get that white hotel with all the balconies that you can see on many of those approach shots, or the one on the other side of the runway next to that bar the photographers talk about, alas they were all booked. When I go again, I’ll book more than 6 months in advance. I got a hotel about 7 K’s from the airport, so I’ll probably hire a car.

Michael, in both instances the Royal Barge was TG910 as my flight UA904 arrived @ 9:05 a.m. and the Royal Barge was parked at the gate. On Wednesday, still suffering from jetlag, I was up at 5:00 so I just looked out the window and watched planes on approach. Sure enough, a little after 7:00 a.m., here comes the Royal Barge again, preceded by a UA 777 and numerous BA 777’s and 767’s. Also, the S. African 743 and a BA744 made appearances. Just a thought, There’s a really tall Holliday Inn near the Gloucester Road tube, I believe it’s called the Holliday Inn Kensington or something. If you have a room near the top of that thing and you have a decent lens or binoculars, I imagine you get some good views of the approaches. I’m sure the rooms are really expensive, however.

Ren, I would have loved to make a jump up to Scotland, but flying BMi into Aberdeen was just way too expensive. For my brother and I, it would have cost just as much to fly up there from Heathrow as it did to fly from LAX to LHR! Amazing, but true. We got a really good deal with UA. We’re going to go to AMS instead because my brother wanted to go there and it was considerably cheaper. Next time I’m in the UK, I will definitely hit you up, and that’s a promise. I’ll just fly into Scotland and avoid London altogether (the American dollar is $hit compared to the Pound!).

Lastly, can somebody please tell me where there is an Irish pub in London that serves Kilkenny?

In response to Greekdude1,

“By the way Michael, Thai’s aircraft on example Monday morning when I landed was Thai’s royal barge. From my hotel room, I can see aircraft on approach into LHR and what did I see this morning (Wednesday), Thai’s royal barge. Twice in 3 days? Not bad. You might bet lucky on the outbound or inbound. How many dailies does TG have into LHR? Is it concievable that the same plane took off on Monday, flew the 11+ hour journey to BKK, sat around a few hours, then flew right back again?”

Hi, Thai Airways operate two flights into London Heathrow. Thai Airways flight TG910 arrives at 07:15hrs and flies every day of the week. TG916 flies on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and arrives at 18:35. Wow, perhaps they use their barge on the TG910 service (the one I’m returning on). You’re right, I might get it lucky!

You sound as if you’re in the same position as my Greek friends in the flat below me. They’ve just finished their exams, are having a quick few weeks in Athens and then coming back for the thesis.

They too are looking forward to seeing some sunny weather again. Glasgow at the moment is enjoying a typical Scottish summer I.E. the rain gets warmer.

Ren Frew, thank u for ur wishes, and I wish u happy summer vacations whatever u do mate.

actually I finished the exams ages ago… all is left for me to do now is my thesis, which unfortunately I have to spend my summer in England to finish it because a) i will be close to my supervisor and to resources and b) if I moved to Cyprus to finish it, I know that I wont confine my self to finish it on time.

I am heading to Cyprus on 11th July for three weeks just to visit my family and friends…

The Cypriot Eagle is heading back to its “nest”…..

I am travelling to Cyprus, perhaps the most beautiful island in the Med Sea.

I am travelling from Stansted with Cyprus Airways A320… on 11th July 2003… staying there for 20 days!
