Im off to Heathrow this week, but easterly winds mean that rwys 09l/r will be in use. is that right?
i dont know much about viewing when it comes to these rwys (none at all in fact). ive looked on spotterswiki, and it lists a couple of suitable spots, but other than that, i have nothing else.
anyone care to give some helpful hints and directions to locations for 09 photography? i dont have a car and so can only use buses, taxis
help would be great. 🙂

I’ve never had any bother at Heathrow and have tried a good few spots. Myrtle Avenue is always good for 27L arrivals, but the runway isn’t in use all day. It will be used along with 27R and depending upon which is handling arriving traffic and which is handling departing traffic, they will swap over at 3pm.
The worksheds by the British Airways maintenance hangars are particularly good, too, and the police drive past and don’t seem to mind the massive congregation of spotters that forms. This offers fantastic views of aircraft arriving on runway 27R and views (although distant) of traffic arriving on 27L, too.
The road that the visitor’s centre is on – you’ll have to forgive me for not knowing what it is called – is also a good spot, though I wouldn’t agree that the visitor’s centre is good for anything except it’s car park. The numerous trees obstruct the views of terminal 1 and runway 27R, but again, I’ve not been bothered by police when I’ve wondered right up to the fence and poked my camera through the holes in it.
And the good thing is, you can walk easily from Myrtle Avenue right the way round to the visitor’s centre. It takes time now the road running between the bmi and British Airways hangers is now closed, but there is plenty to see on the way. Alternatively, the very frequent 285 bus will get you from A to B at a cost of £1.50.

It is just north of rwy 09L/27R
If you follow signs for terminals 1,2 and 3 (but dont go through the tunnel if you go to far) then there should be on one of the many 100’s of signs should say ‘Visitor Centre’.
It would be easier to come from the area where the hangers are.
If that doesn’t help go onto ‘google’ and search for it!!!
hope that helps

Myrtle avenue is only any good for 27L arrivals, there is a site about spotting at Heathrow which I’m sure someone will give the URL to, I haven’t got it unfortunately
