V and L also fall into 50% miles earning bucket. Did a quick calculation and your getting 1350 miles(give or take). When you fly you will get 1350 in a pot towards your status (silver,gold etc) and 1350 miles into a pot to redeem on flights,car rental,hotels and so on. BD silver is ok and will award you some nice comforts when flying BD (lounge access,priority boarding). For me its the VERY generous redemption rates that is the main draw for diamond club. Keep an eye out for some almost ridiculously generous offers to earn destination miles. Sign up for the bmi credit card and bag 20k miles, there was an offer early this year where a £12 magazine subscription got you 9k miles. A good number of destinations were included when i did a Mileage Run on this fare with them in Feb. Any 4segment run (intra-european) on the Business deal will get you over 4k status miles with BD.

Thanks for that ALLIANCE, I have in fact booked a short trip to Madrid via Zurich on Swiss for September and the fares were great…£182rtn, but thats in economy, so not sure how many status miles I will get for it; I am still looking to go away in October too so may well consider using United as I have never flown on them before!

If you fancy flying stateside, and want miles i would suggest using U.S AIRWAYS or UNITED as they both offer 100% miles earning for Diamond Club even on there deepest discounted tickets. Very poor service though especially on U.S.

Why dont you fly to BEIRUT LEBANON, I am not sure exactly how many points that earns you, but Beirut is the number 1 destination to visit during 2009 according to the New York Time and CNN and the 3rd best kept secret according to the Lonely Planet.

During october its still warm enough to swim and in the mountains you should have some snow for skiing, its 4.30hrs by BMI flight.

we did a toronto trip in 2004 using Lufthansa from Manchester via Frankfurt
we went on Thursday morning and came back overnight Sunday
while there we toured toronto, and cn tower etc, and also did a coach trip to Niagara.
recomend the Downtown Novotel in Toronto its only 400m from the station, which is where the airport shuttle bus drops and picks up, also it is the theatre area so lots of nice eating places.

I can certainly recommend Toronto. A very friendly and easy to navigate city with a few of the world’s ‘must see’ attractions nearby. Also very highly recommended is Tokyo; probably the most amazing city I’ve ever been to. 🙂
