dark light

Where did the “British Sailors/Marines Seized by Iran” thread go?

Sadly this thread seemed to have degenerated to a point where it served no purpose other than to let people post inflammatory remarks and then hurl abuse at those who objected to those remarks.

That was never my intention but if that is what people want to do then by all means start another thread, I can’t stop you.

One should mention that the moderation in the general discussion forum is far more severe than it is in the Modern Military aviation forum. The spat that occured in this thread is childs play compared to what seems to be required to get a thread locked in Modern Military Aviation.

well holy god…we actually agree on something!!! strange but true!! 😀

Sadly, it’s the way of these forums over recent years I’ve found. There seems to be two highly polarized blocks of opinion on the forum, and several members in each faction are constantly looking to antagonize the other, and drawing them into yet another flame war. Hence the voice of reason & decent debate is usually drowned out in a cacophony of infantile nationalistic rants, pompous jingoism and in alot of cases, it all spirals further into a fusillade of childish taunts until the moderators feel the need to step in.

well but thougth perhaps not a happy fact, world is that way….we have different obinions and as the overal concept of unbiased truth is a myth, the rivaling frictions will clash, as they always has and always will. I think with all places with considerable freedom of speach, the situation is the same, and certain topics, like the one in question simply cannot be discussed civiliced, by the simple nature of it (unless discussed with people with uniformal way of thinging and same obinions.)

But I agree that there are clearly disquintive blocks in this particlular forum, where as only the one of them usually gets most of the blame (where both troll and flame equally badly) and thus agitates them into even bolder confrontation.
(But thats just my obinion spoken inside of “the block” and shouldn’t be taken anything else than pure propaganda;) 😉 )

I’ll be the first to admit, I did lash out myself during that thread, and I apologise to the decent members of the board for my part in adding fuel to the fire.

+1 on what Lawndart said.:o

My apologies to those who posted the more measured, the more interesting and the less confrontational comments but I didn’t want to start selectively deleting posts (I’m not even sure I could have done that) so deletion of the whole thread seemed the least worst option.

As Grey Area has indicated the end result was virtually inevitable anyway.

Could it not have been locked rather than deleted?

Moderator Message

Thanks for saving me the trouble, Creaking Door.

That was an interesting discussion for a while until the usual suspects kicked off (yet) again.

Funny, I was about to post my last comment about how it was starting to get a tad stupid, I thought my final comments were valid and based on both historical, Geneva Convention, views of my family and the fact that I was falling into a baited trap, however, if others thought they were not then I hereby publicly apologise.
