Hello again,
After having a rummage through some random old photographs that we found after she died back in 1997, I came across this Shorts 360 of Air Europa Express.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/m-kinghorn/aw/shorts.jpg
Me and my family lived in Germany for three years between 1988 and 1991 and this photo was taken in 1989 as far as I can remember (so we’re going back quite a few years now) and I’ve just wanted to see the history of the aircraft between then (1989) and now (2003). I’ve used the G-INFO aircraft database and searched for G-OAB_ which is the only visible part of the registration. Unfortunately, not one Shorts 360 came up in my search. So, could it have been transferred to another airline some years ago that wasn’t British registered? Did it crash? Can someone please help?
Notice the old German LTU Tristars in the background? And that little old lady climbing the steps is my nan. Apparently, these flights never attracted many and there weren’t any cabin crew. It was my nane who prepared tea and coffee for the few who flew this route between this German airport (which I don’t know) and what I expect is London Gatwick.
Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: Where is this aircraft now? Air Europa Express
Air Europa Express planes stored in Zaragoza (Northeast of Spain). Photo taken by a CRJ Air Nostrum pilot I know.

Air Europe Express was originally Connectair. It subsequently survived the downfall of Air Europe (its parent company) and became CityFlyer Express before absorption into BA in its present form. In its early days it was also merged with the former Guernsey Airlines.

Don´t confuse Air Europe Express and Air Europa Express. Both went out of business but the second was the regional branch of Spanish Air Europa and operated ATP. Most of them are stored in Zaragoza. The airline was closed down temporarely due to heavy losses at Air Europa. It seems that they always to open it again but using RJ, issue which oppose Air Europe pilots because they fear some AEA flights could go to low cost regional branch to be created. So I am affraid no more AEA Express in Spain

Thank you so much! I guess I assumed it was a B but I suppose it could well be an E and judging by what you’ve said, it more than likely is.
Any idea if it’s still flying in the States and if so, who for?
Thank you once again for the vast amount of information you’ve supplied me with.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-01-03 AT 10:25 PM (GMT)]you sure it’s G-OAB_?
G-INFO lists an Air Europe Express Shorts 360 registered G-OAEX, which operated for Air Europe Express from 9/3/89 to 23/8/91, subsequently reregistered to G-BKZR.
there’s a pic of OAEX, and the E could quite well be mistaken for a B, if it was hidden behind a door.
BKZR flew for B Cal commuter, till the 4/10/94, when it was transferred to the US registry.
Before flying for Air Europe Express, it flew with Manx as G-SALU for 3 and a half years. It’s serial number is SH.3628 if that’s of any help to you.
(incidentally, G-INFO has pictures of both G-OAEX and G-BKZR.)
Oh, and LTU tristars… could well be Dusseldorf, as that’s LTU’s homebase, and, with two on the pic, there’s surely a chance it’s at home…
