Just a little fun – where and when do you think I took this Hurricane shot? I’ll let you know later – have a try.

Which Spit is that in the last shot – it’s Griffon-engined, anyway.

I wonder if Tim might like to share the photos he took at Lossiemouth. I was allowed to sit in the Sea Fury and the Fulmar around that date when they were in a Hanger on the South West side of Lossie but as the hanger also had new Buccs (top secret!!!!) I wasnt allowed to take my camera in with me. 🙁
At Strathallan I was told that the engineers had to do quite a bit of work to get the Hurricane in a presentable state. It had flown in the BoB Film but when they had a look at the tail feathers, if I remember correctly it had some non acceptable parts.

I have a postcard somewhere of the Spit and the Hurricane in flight somewhere, I think whilst they were still owned by Strathallan, if anyone’s interested?

Keith and Robert both take the prize! Actually taken 33 years ago. Sir William kindly allowed me access to his then very private small collection. This was well before the museum was created and dedicated hangar built. In those days it seemed quite surreal to find these gems in that setting. I was on my way to an appointment the following day at Lossiemouth to photograph some preserved service aircraft including a certain Fulmar. So was unable to accept an invitation to share the start up of his Spitfire the following day (very frustrating). Here are a couple of other shots taken also at Strathallan that day.
It was sad indeed when ‘WLW/CF-SMI was lost in the CWH fire – I was impresseed to see their replica when I visited there, which contains some small components of the real Hurricane.

It is at Strathallan many years ago so if my memory is correct it is WLW ex CF-SMI deceased.

Hmm… CFBS? If so, they’ve come on leaps and bounds with it.

:diablo: Wherever it is they are going to have to get cracking for it to be ready for Legends, assuming it’s a recent photo 😀

One correct answer so far. I’ll leave it till tomorrow to confirm which – so if anyone cares to guess further which of those narrowed down possibilities it is then have fun.

Is it Malta a couple of years ago
By: Rocketeer - 9th May 2005 at 22:17
Dont think its Maltas, though could be or could be Steve Milnthorpe’s example, before it went east (definitely not Robs Lamplough’s Mk IV)
By: Rocketeer - 9th May 2005 at 22:08
Of course it can’t be anything at Hawker Restorations…….
well if we are going that way…..its not BBMF, not Sea Hurricane (no arrestor hook cut out)…..I think its looks to nice to be the second Rochester rebuild….could be first but I don’t think so. Its not Breighton’s example when it was at Autocraft either…..it could be G-ORGI during sometime….I shall have to think further!

Rochester?

Wild guess, Strathallan about 20 years ago?
By: Mark12 - 9th May 2005 at 20:18
