I have a task for you all…
I have some annual leave at the start of October (1st-11th), and I am looking to go away somewhere, but I need some ideas for possible place/s to go.
Budget is £250-300, and this has got to cover flights and accomodation, so it will obviously have to be somewhere in Europe as I doubt I would be able to get anywhere further than that.
Also, I would prefer it if flights were on a Star Alliance carrier departing to/from LHR as I live very close by, but LGW would be fine as well.
Any suggestions, please post below.:)

So was Zebedee, until Dougal rusted his spring!
Not that far from the truth… I was actually dumped by a girlfriend on Platform 3 of the station… Wonderful city though….

Thanks for all your suggestions, however, I have been doing some further research and it looks very much as though Prague could be on the cards. My parents visited the city earlier this year and so I asked them the other day whether they thought I would enjoy it and they both said “Yes!”.
Been doing some search into flights…as you know I would like to travel on a Star Alliance carrier, so am looking at travelling with Lufthansa via DUS (outbound)/FRA (inbound).

Would anyone else like to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tell cloud_9 where to go? :diablo:
Haha! 😀
My suggestion would be Madeira. Flights and accommodation can be found very cheap out of season (myself and 3 others are heading back there for a week in November, flights and a nice hotel cost around £230). It’s a beautiful island with a very gentle, relaxed feel and I’d very much recommend it to anyone who’s into going to places to see the place itself. The airport’s pretty damned good too! 🙂

How about Ireland?

I recently visited Burgau in Portugal, excellent experience if you want to just “get away from everything”. Stayed there for two weeks and had the pleasure of seeing a pod of dolphins swim up the beach, a small shark (not sure what species) swam past our little boat and had a great time with the locals.

Would this be for spotting only, or would you also want to include other things? If the latter, are you more a beach/party guy or a city-trip guy?
I am more of a city/sightseeing kind of person.
And it would be nice if I could do a bit of spotting, but its not essential.
Sorry Kabir for posting in the wrong thread, just thought that people who regularily view Commerical would be able to help better than others seeing as my requirements are quite specific, but actually being in General isnt such a bad idea as it means that lots of other people can offer suggestions. Thanks.

I’d get a cheap ferry ticket across, the Channel, book a really inexpensive French hotel and explore the Western Front myself. Tons to do and see, lots of scrummy food at not bad prices.

Obvious choises combining city and spotting are MAD, DUS, CDG and AMS. I am not really a beach-party guy so can´t comment on those. FRA is good for spotting (look out for a photo thread coming in a few days from yours truly) but the city itself is for the most part not really interesting to tourists. WW2 and post WW2 reconstruction really took its toll on this city.

LOL at Kabir!
