Hi all,
Got a bit of a challenge for you all…
I need/want to take my girlfriend for a surprise holiday for her birthday.
I say surprise, in the sense that she knows already that she is going to go away, but doesn’t know where…and she won’t know until she gets to the airport. (Don’t worry she doesn’t read this forum, so she won’t know find out about it!:D)
The problematic thing is that she has said she would like to go somewhere hot and with a beach, however, I am not a very good beach person (I can’t stand just sitting/lying on a beach all day!), so I am thinking of combining a city/beach style trip.
Her birthday is at the end of October (23rd), and I would need to be back in the UK on the evening of the 27th as I am back to work on the 28th.
Does anyone have any suggestions of places to visit?
Thanks in advance.:)

For somewhere like Florida, I am looking at £600+ alone for a return airfare and thats just for one of us…
That’s alright, just leave the missus at home… oh no, that kind of defeats the object…:p

Where’s Cloud 9 gone??…………..
I am still here…was just waiting for a multitude of answers before I replied.
Thanks for all your suggestions, really has been a help, and a few have certainly made me chuckle…:D
Only problem I have is if I fly on the Sunday, I miss the Saturday stay option which a lot of airlines put as a condition which would enable me to get a cheaper fare.

Someone earlier mentioned what my budget was…I would like to try to keep it within £1,000, to include flights and accomodation…
Told you it would be a challenge…;)

How about Bedfont Football Club car park ? It’s great when they are using 27L for arrivals at LHR. Ok it isn’t quite a beach but it’s gravelly and could pass for a beach if you lay a few beach towels down. It does get sunny sometimes as well. You can pop into the social club for a bacon butty or cup of tea. Most importantly just think of the stuff you could get coming into Heathrow. I’ll get my coat…..
(seriously this is usually the conundrum I have when booking a holiday with the lady…..”now where can I get some decent shots ? 🙂 )
Recent quote from my better half : “What a great 3 hours I’ve had in Barcelona stuck on level 2 of a multi-story car park”.
ps Croatia is nice. Fly to Venice and get the ferry over to Porec. Takes 3 hours. Beautiful part of the world.

A tad chilly on a beach in October. 😀
Actually the inlaws went to Jersey in October and had a warm and very sunny week, more so than they experienced in Wales all summer!
Taking a chance though.
Seriously I would concur with others about Malta, cheap, just right in October temp and weather wise, plus you have the beautiful Valetta city, though the big sandy beach is at the opposite end of the island.

We go to the Algarve about two weeks earlier than your dates. Generally very nice beach weather although you expect to lose the odd day to rain.
