I have now entered my 50th year and am looking to mark the occasion during the year by finally taking a Tiger ride, if possible a Harvard ride, flying the F4 sim in Yorkshire and the Concorde Sim at Brooklands (plus winning the lottery of course).
Anyway, would like to go and stay somewhere with a strong aviation link and perhaps enjoy a nice meal with Mrs Waco.
We did the Petwood Spa a couple of years ago and really enjoyed that.
Any idea’s anyone ??? Cheers and compliments of the season to everyone!

Thanks for that……..
Has anyone done any flying out of Sywell on the Tioger or Harvard ???
One other thing…has anyone done a list of famous Bomber Command pubs ?
Would like to try a pint in all those surviving as my task for the next few years ?
Cheers

If you want a really good aviation heritage birthday ‘fix’, try Sywell, Northampton.
You can probably book Tiger Moth and Harvard flights on the same, or successive days, with an overnight in the art-deco ‘Aviator’ hotel on the edge of the aerodrome.
There’s the Sywell Aerodrome Museum on site, not to mention the ‘Carpetbaggers’ special ops museum just up the road at Harrington.

If you come to this part of the world these links will provide good local information for the Nottinghamshire area and the North Kesteven District area! 🙂

You could do your Tiger Moth ride at Cambridge, possibly the best value of the various offerings, staying at the Red Lion at Whittlesford (But in the building, not the Holiday Inn extension).
The meal there usually falls short of high-end cuisine, being essentially pub grub – though there are some excellent restaurants in and around the area.
And a drink in the RAF Bar of the Eagle in Cambridge would be a must.
