Whereabouts of winchman Mike Yarwood ?

A friend is trying to contact an old RAF acquaintance. He knew him when they
were both at RAF Cosford many years ago.

Mike Yarwood (no not that Mike Yarwood) went on to become a winchman
on SAR duties. Spending time at RAF Boulmer and taking part in the Piper
Alpha incident.

Any help would be appreciated

You should be OK posting in the normal Military aircrew sub-forum. Folks who respond might send a PM rather than post on the open forum. A repeat post in the “Where Are They Now?” section might work too.

Thanks for that. I believe he also appeared on “This is your life”.

……….. to become a winchman
on SAR duties. Spending time at RAF Boulmer and taking part in the Piper
Alpha incident.

Was winched many times by Mike Yarwood during my time at Boulmer and was on duty when his Sea King was launched to the Alexander Kielland accommodation platform early 1980 (leg broke off), this was where he won an AFM. Seems a long time ago now, I believe all the crew was recognised for this action and MY was exhausted in the rescue of over 30 casualties in mountainous seas.

Boulmer was the last sighting of MY I had when I was posted 1981.

Nope, thanks for the tip 😉

Where would be the best place to ask on that forum ? As I know there are those who take it personally
if you post something in the wrong place, and are very quick to telly you.

Have you tried the military forum on Pprune? Maybe someone over there would know?
