One of the two examples of this Danish aerobatic aircraft was
exported from Germany to Great Britain and was operated there
by a Bob Mitchell as G-AYKZ. Apparently, it has not held a valid
CoA for many years and to my knowledge it was last reported as
being stored in Coventry. As a KZ aircraft enthusiast I would
greatly appreciate any hints to its present status, condition
and whereabouts. Does anyone out there know more?
Only two of these aircraft were ever built, and the other one
(OY-DRR) is preserved in airworthy condition at the Danish
Vintage Aircraft Collection in Stauning, Denmark. A replica
powered by a horizontally-opposed engined was completed in the
late ’90s and is airworthy in Denmark. This all-wooden aircraft
powered originally by a Gipsy Major engine is historically
very interesting as it introduced the concept of small, single
seat, monoplane aerobatic aircraft as early as the late ’40s,
i.e. much before the Stephens Akro and the Extra range of
aerobatic aircraft.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

RE: Whereabouts S.A.I. KZ-VIII G-AYKZ?
She is still believed to be in storage at R.A.F Cosford with the rest of his collection of aircraft. I too like the machine – pity she is a ‘hanger queen’ !
