I take it with a pinch of salt, but rumours are Vulcan to the sky are buying the Coventry fleet? Who has their t7 been sold too?

As long as we don’t get the begging bowl thrown at us at every appearance then I’m happy, oh and please don’t call it the ‘peoples Meteor’ !

Well said. Operating a Meteor makes sense.
And why not, the type was first operated by “South Yorkshire’s Own- 616Sqn, the T7 (in question) operated with 215 AFS from Finningley.

VTTS get a Vulcan to fly and for many years and are slated for it,now possibly, maybe they have been linked to a Meteor-good for them because this country is really good at looking after it’s own stuff like that before they get shipped abroad or scrapped.
Once again no one forces anyone to donate or be interested.

Actually the idea was for using her for underwing trials
I’m not sure what the Vulcan could do what a bailed B-52 (or bailed fighter to one of the civil defense contractors or even an underwing stores modified bizjet) couldn’t, probably at lower cost and without the spares/support/crew/and ferry cost issues.
And if the offer was genuine, why didn’t they take them up on it at the end of the UK schedule?
The Vulcan could still be flying in the US where the UK CAA issues would possibly be moot if the ac was put on an US “Experimental” license.
Sorry, to me it sounds like another hollow threat.

No sign of new arrivals in the hangar yet.

Presumably they have lots of spare money left over from operating the Vulcan, after years of telling us that they’re days away from closure due to lack of funds. “Give us your money, or the kitten/puppy/Vulcan gets it!”
Looks like a good time to post this again.
Don’t forget VTTS’s other threat…”Some American will buy it”…despite no indication that was true.
To the vast majority of non-aviation historian Americans, the Vulcan is best recalled as the aircraft from Thunderball…hardly enough to support it’s operation in North America.

True ! I doubt many people had thought of that !

With her not using as much fuel etc, will save cash
By: charliehunt - 15th November 2015 at 11:51
Quite so. The presumption you made was that there “was lots of money left over”. We have no idea what the current financial status is.
By: Mike J - 15th November 2015 at 11:47
Not a presumption at all, all of the fundraising pleas were specific to the Vulcan.
By: charliehunt - 15th November 2015 at 11:39
Quite so, Alan. Anything else is a presumption, so of little relevance.

They could get a Canberra . A new building will be millions looking at the plans – that will be a trip to the HLF cashpoint I guess!
By: SADSACK - 15th November 2015 at 11:12
I would have thought getting a new building up will take up resources? Pity they cant get a Canberra.
By: steve611 - 15th November 2015 at 11:01
There would have to have been an emergency buffer kept aside. You can buy a fair bit of museum-grade airframe for the cost of a couple of hours flying time in a Vulcan.
By: AlanR - 15th November 2015 at 10:05
Because that money was not given for other projects, the appeals were strictly to keep the Vulcan, and only the Vulcan, in the air
Which it did, for eight memorable years.

If there is lots of spare cash for new projects which otherwise might be underfunded or have no funding, what’s the problem?

Reminds me of this tale….
