I really must try to get there myself this year. I say that every year but something always turns up to spoil the plot

Scotty, take a trundle down to sunny Cambridgeshire for the Gransden airshow in late August / early September. Lovely little grass airfield, great people, fabulous displays, and a big chunk of the proceeds got to BBC’s Children In Need appeal. Can’t think of a better way of donating money to such a worthy cause!

Sounds good 🙂

To be fair to RIAT, they do appear to have improved certain aspects. The car parking and entry / exit routes have been worked on, and last year there did seem to have been some thought put into the flying programme and of course the 100 years of flight static.

Down sides – still far too expensive for what it is. I got in free last year courtesy of a crew pass on the Regal Beagle (XS770 in the static), but otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered. I certainly won’t be going this year (unless I get another invite 😉 ). My other HUGE bugbear is the hospitality tents, grandstands and worst of all the BLOODY FUNFAIRS on the crowdline.

There’s none of that tomfoolery at Gransden, Breighton or Old Warden, chaps. And those venues are full of REAL aeroplanes too. 😉

Yes sorry, I forgot about that bit but it’s true enough. The last time I went was the last one befor they moved it to Cosford for the resurfacing of the run way at Fairford. I remember a rather spirited display by the Italian air force G222 but have since seen film of the display they put on with it in Italy – they actually roll the thing, very impressive

You forgot, as Arm said, about the non-stop procession of F16 after F16 after F16…

Just an F16? What will be new there this year? Anything that hasn’t been seen before – or is that now just the realm of the reggie spotters?

Abingdon Fayre…

May 2nd – or is that too soon? Only a fiver and for a good cause.

Ok it’s not a large event (7-8 item flying display and includes a fly-in) but is getting UK Military support this year.

😀

Leuchars is fine if you like sitting in your car for hours to get in, then again to get out.
If you want to come to Scotland, East Fortune might be a better bet.

Or for a real air display, head along to the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden. Lots of flying days through the year.
