Short ‘G’ class. I’d then move the family into it, and tour the world.

Stylish!

I think I have been here before, but I am sure I forgot to add a Concorde in my list.

if only

If money were no object I’d buy thunder city off mike beachyhead then I’d get myself a couple of T4 jaguar’s, a couple of T4 harrier’s a tornado, a canberra, phantom and get the valiant from cosford back in the air.
I would of course keep XS452 all to myself :), (r.i.p dave stock and 451 :()

The sole example of the FW 189 in existance, also the Me410 from Cosford, the Go229 fully restored to flying condition then presented to a German museum for exhibition,

I have read ALLthe replies and why am I not supprised no-one

has plumped for the Belvedere, well I’ tell you you never worked on it, because

all of us who did, would have on “toot Sweet” olly

Funnily enough the Belvedere would be on my list, as I have fond memories of it at Farnborough and then at Odhiam in the early 60s. But I’m not enough of a heli man to include it on the list – sorry.:(

Would bribe some officials to take the Dutch Connie airborne and show it of accross the pond now and then ;)…

Help the Dutch Fouga flight with some new airframes or engines. Support the Dutch historic aircraft comunity with what ever is possible.

Would try to get a nice Historic airshow of the ground here in the Netherlands organised by Aircraft enthousiast all over europe who can have input in what to see.

A guy can dream right?

For comfy and supremely elegant touring, a Percival Gull Six in maroon and silver livery (OK, so I’d buy G-AEZJ)
As a light business/VIP transport to take friends/family around in style, either a VIP-configured Percival Q6 or D.H. Flamingo (probably the latter ‘cos they’re gorgeous) in midnight blue with gold trim.

For sheer thrills, a BAC Lightning F.6 in all-over natural metal, probably in the markings of 23 or 74 squadrons.

I’ll break the mould and not propose any warbirds or other complex vintage designs.

Much as I drool at the sound and sight of these magnificent machines, the margin when something goes wrong is for my personal taste just too small (I’m cosseted by a ballistic rescue system in one aircraft that I fly, a Tecnam P92, and comforted by innocent handling characteristics of the other, a Cessna 172).

I’ll take a Tecnam P2006T straight off the assembly line with the full Garmin glass cockpit set-up, or if I’m to be really ambitious, an equally brand new Pilatus PC-12.

Then I’d donate whatever I don’t need to any initiative capable of eliminating the NIMBY brigades’ efforts to close airports/airfields.

Put quite simply if I had an infinite budget. I would have one of each.

With rebuilds made of those no longer existing.

Or build a few flying replicas of those no longer available.

Halifax being the first main one for my list.

Always wanted to do a model of one of these. A flying model. Never quite got there.

This is one of those “almost impossible to answer” questions, because having carefully made a short list you realise there are three other aircraft you cannot leave off so…..

Dragon Rapide
Miles Magister
Constellation
Stratocruiser
Tempest or Typhoon
Wyvern
Hunter
Lightning

The Fury looks like the one that had a mishap a while back but is I believe being rebuilt.

You are correct David. Just found this distressing although spectacular photo, and apparently it has been repaired and is now airworthy again. 🙂

First I’d buy former RAF Driffield (£4.5m for the camp, £3.5 for the hangars and £6m for the airfield), then spend £8m reworking the various services (water, drainage, sewerage, roads, paths, gas, electric, landscaping). I would then spend money refurbishing the 68 married quarters and convert the eight barracks blocks into 48 spacious apartments.

With the empty spaces used to build additional starter homes, I would make enough money to make the housing part of this project self-financing, to be named “Trenchard Close”.

I would restore the hangars and technical buildings and create: “Driffield Aerodrome Business Park”.

I would clear the airfield of trees and the army driving circuit, then rebuild the main runway. The control tower, water tower and hangar five would also be rebuilt. And once all that has been done I’d operate a Halifax BIII from “Driffield Aerodrome” and build a memorial to ALL those killed in action while flying from Driffield.

But that ain’t going to happen. Who thinks up these silly games? A few weeks ago I was blasted for even suggesting the Short Belfast G-BEPS (or indeed just the cockpit section) be saved from the axe. And now some bright spark has come up with this dribble, that does nothing other than make me feel depressed.

If you want to play silly ******s, let’s play a man’s game: what would you do to the *******wits who are planning to smash up RAF Driffield? Or what would you do to the idiots who starve this country of much needed funds to properly protect our aviation hertiage? OR how about this: HOW IMPORTANT IS OUR AVIATION HERTIAGE IN THE FIRST PLACE? : DISCUSS…

I’m working on a number of podcasts which will be a “Reality Check” on both us and our aviation heritage AND MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOULS…

This one will do nicely (though I wouldn’t camouflage the windscreen on mine!). This is a Heinkel He 51 in service with the Condor Legion in Spain in 1938. Some of you might know that I’ve started building a replica of this pretty girl and I’ve already acchieved 1/344552nd in getting there.

my wish

Forget Santa, well look at what he bats around in? I for one have only one wish and that would be a Westland Wyvern S4. As to why, I can only say try looking down from the top of one for the answer. I would settle for a non flyer if all else fails

Fascinating nostalgia. Great to have so many forgotten specimens re-born. But no one (I believe) has yet identified their ONE love or aspiration. In that I am not surprised! **

Nor, with small exception, has anyone indicated whether their choices are pie in the sky or from hands-on experience. Or why.

** Because it’s a question of each to its own. No one machine can fill all ones needs or desires. And few of us have had experience of each type in all situations. Wish I had!

Here (once again??) are my meetings. Each has had a character to suit the mood or occasion. Not one was a complete non-love.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/photo04/RAF2/flown.jpg

With hindsight, my choice would be for a Float Plane or Flying Boat – in neither of which have I been first pilot.

Please forgive the rambling of one of the last of the many!! All grist to the mill? And keeps me out of the Pub??

= Tim
