Which airfield is this?

A number of light aircraft with ‘Executive Air’ on them were present and a few which may be resident plus visitors. I’m inclined to think Elstree mid 1990s. I’ve got more photos taken the same day but don’t want to bore you 🙂

Do all your G- reg checking here including links to scanned records of the pre 1986 histories.

Assuming we’ve nailed the location – it is possible that you took the above shots from the albeit limited viewpoint from ground level to the right of the old terminal building, alongside the spiral staircase that was a spotters favourite at the time. I certainly did the same, and suspect my shots which are stashed in the loft show the same angle from around the same time period before airport security ended the access point I mention….

Hm, don’t think so as if you look at the pics you’ll see I’ve been wandering among all the aircraft, not being static. Damn, I really thought it was Elstree especially after looking at it on Google maps
My dates are also obviously way off because of the registrations. Could it be Coventry? as that’s just up the road and I went to the museum there once…

9 July update: just found more pics of the same place, and same aircraft??? Anyway, can’t be Elstree as in the background of one is a set of aircraft steps, possibly dark blue or black, indicates large aircraft. I’m still puzzled.
Couple more pics which may help id from those knowledgable about registrations and where based.

Ok, thanks I’ll accept Birmingham, it’s not far from me, but I’ve no idea when I went there – or how I would have got access to the apron. Just found another batch of negs which might be the same place, have to get them scanned in and compare.
Birmingham?

I’m almost positive that these are at Birmingham, judging the background against similar views seen on a facebook group I’m in for the old airport:
http://www.facebook.com/groups/254594888087?view=photos plus given that I used to ‘spot’ at the same location at the time these were taken in theory…

Extremely good possibility of being Birmingham, probably between September and November 1979.

I looked up some of the single engined chaps as they are most likely to be based rather than visitors.

TROT was registered from June 79 and BCPM the AA5 became G-MALC in November 79. BCPM was registered to a Stoke on Trent name.

G-AVVE was registered to Birmingham owners from 78 to 83. WFD also to Birmingham owners 71 to 84. BCRT in September 79 became registered to Executive Air of Hangar Lane at Birmingham Airport in September 79 through till 1982.

There you have it.

Reminds me of Blackbushe in the mid or late 1970s (I worked there).

OK, in my second post with the other photos I said I was sure it WAS Elstree, well I’m 99% sure anyway. If I’m wrong then I really need to know where I was 😀
Definitely NOT Norwich, |Southend, Blackbushe…never been to any of those.

Similar to Southend, but not.

How about Norwich from the Air Anglia PA-31?

No real clue on the airfield but, in the edge of the photo of G-ASZZ is the tail of an Air Anglia aircraft G-BEXU. This was a Birmingham regular and before going to Air Anglia was with a Birmingham based company. It was also sold to the USA in March 1980 so that narrows the dates down even further. G-BEFT (pictured) might also have been a BHX regular but I can’t see anything in any of the photo’s which would definitively pin it down to BHX.

Mmmmm thanks…

Not sure on location but date is certainly between June 79 and December 81 as G-TROT was only registered between these dates.
The absence of any later sequence registrations certainly ties in with this.

Never been to Southend. The reason I think it’s Elstree is that I had to go to a business meeting there so being at an airfield I took my camera. Just googled it and I’m sure it is Elstree, best guess is 1995. Pics are a bit small as I ‘m wary of my limit on file space. Anyways, for Arm Waver here’s some more, same time same place. TSM belonged to TSM Holland so maybe PH-TSM.

My guess is Southend , too much tarmac for Elstree, but its difficult to be sure without making the photos bigger.
