but that Flower IS an Edelweiss…
By: dartie - 9th March 2004 at 23:48
Edelwies (i thinks that how you spell it) *rubs head* i think the flowers and its choice of colours are over the top, another one would be the special colour scheme B743(or B742) or South African Airways the Ndanzi aircraft it has a weird livery!

The new United looks like an overgrown ice cream van. BWIA just looks bloody awful!
By: Jeanske_SN - 9th March 2004 at 12:27
I like the new Livery of VLM. The worse, hmmm, SudanAir! Too boring and makes the plane look like you can find torned off fragments behind it :).

Air Tahiti Nui,Air Jamaica and BWIA in my opinion super liveries.T5 I agree…..from happy sunny countries ,trying to spread a little fun in the places where they land!

any pics of an aa in grey?
By: greekdude1 - 8th March 2004 at 16:43
How could any livery be, “over the top?” The only ‘over the top’ I know of is in poker, when somebody raises and you raise him. Besides, in this day and age when most airlines go for the conservative look, it’s good to have airlines such as BWIA (my personal favourite), Air Jam, Air Tahiti Nui, and the like. As one of my graduate professors used to tell me, “Variety is the Spice of Life!”

Didn’t American only paint their A300s grey because of the amount of composite materials in them? There was no such thing as ‘shiny aluminium’ in quite a number of areas of the aircraft, and so it was the closest thing they could get to a ‘metal’ look.
For me it’s a case of looking closer to home for some of the worst liveries – easyJet and flyBE being the two worst culprits.
The best looking livery though has to be the 1980s/90s classic BA of dark blue bottom, red speedline and light grey top, with the BA ‘crest’ on the tail. Absolutely world beating. Funny how United adopted a similar look at the time 😎

I agree that Tahiti and BWIA are absolutely superb. I believe in colour and boldness in a livery. Too many white planes out there now. Air Jamaica is also great, Air Scandic is over the top as is the latest version of Thomson.
The trouble with some liveries is tha they start off quite well, then the CEO’s and marketing fairies start adding on things like “.com” or slogans that completely destroy the original vision created by the designer. I felt BA’s Landor scheme was over the top, basically the same as the prior red tail look, with some “over the topness” provided in the form of the coat of arms and red cheat line.

Are you saying that the sun doesn’t shine all day, every day in the Caribbean? I would never have guessed.

Thats a logojet!
They have one or two DC-9’s in special colours for various reasons.
Here are their usual colours:

Partly correct.
Their colourschemes reflect their wish to advertise the West Indies and Jamaica as holiday destinations.
Thus their colour schemes are colourful and lively. They bring the message across quite nicely.
The BWIA scheme is just fantastic, as is the Air Tahiti Nui. Both designed by the same person btw.
The Air Tahiti Nui scheme is nothing less than a stroke of genious. I love it. In an age where eurowhite dominates, this airline, as did BWIA, dared to be different.
ps. the person responsible for both liveries lurks on these forums. He’s not registered, but reads these pages with interest. So watch out 😉 LOL
