OK i have just spent a great weekend in london with some mates. Yesterday while walking over westminster bridge i noticed a mammoth of a Virgin a340 heading into land at one of the london airports so i was wondering which airport were they heading for ??
Saw these aircraft between 2 and 4 pm yesterday.l
I also saw:
Virgin 747
BA 747
various A330S.

It can safely be said that they were going into Heathrow. The approaches for the other London airport don’t go anywhere near the centre of London. (except City but they don’t get too many 747’s or 340’s).
I don’t think it’s too likely that you saw G-LSAD. Perhaps a Turkish 321?
1L.
Yeh i was thinking that as G-LASD is based up and at MAN it could well have been a 321 i honestly couldn’t tell but to me i could see the red on the side of the fuselage and the red tail.

I loved heathrow when I was behind the scenes ( 😀 ) my dad was doing lights or summit somewhere and I saw concorde take off!, anyway back to reality, Most all probably LHR and where to BA operate 747’s to from Cardiff?
Cardiff is BA maintance Base for all its long haul aircraft.
Plus i think BA have some of there old 747s stored there.

They would of been heading for….
Virgin A340 – LHR
Virgin 747 – LHR/LGW
BA 747 – LHR
Various A330s – Well without any information it would be either LHR/LGW.
More than likely most if not all were heading for LHR…

Heathrow – it’s the only UK airport (apart from Cardiff?) that BA 747 a/c operate out of.

Heathrow most probably ?

You don’t mention times, but I assume it would have been the big airport in the west of London.
LGW much further south, doubt you would see aircraft over London town heading for LGW at 2000ft descending.
Yes I’d say LHR.
