[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-11-02 AT 06:13Â PM (GMT)]This afternoon I went to Brussels as I was told that there was a new Spitfire in the museum. Hanging from the ceiling, “chasing a V-1” was, this Spitfire BS435. As this museum part was closed, I only managed to shoot the enclosed poor shot. Is this a real Spitfire? I was told that it was a real one, and that it was recently inported from the UK. Is it real, where did it came from and what is its real identity????? Thanks. BW Roger

Just to confuse things further we have got the Mk IX static Spitfire (GRP) used on a skid down a track for the close up shots.
Currently undergoing a refurbishment for a trailer exhibit believed to have been an ex TDL gate guard but wich and what we
have no info unless someone on here has ??

I know there’s one (JG891) in Bob Stanford-Tuck’s markings.

Take a look here,

A good stab at what is where.

(Apologies to original photographer)Screengrab from the film, showing that the film-makers saw sense to use a slightly more appropriate mark of Spitfire!

Well the Battle of Britain scenes are great, cant vouch for how accurate the Pearl Harbour raid is, the Doolittle raid, forget it, rest of the films dire but its worth watching the flying scenes as its unlikely we will see big BOB sequences again
Shuttleworths sea hurricane is in the film, in its FAA colours – goodness knows why

Aaah, makes sense now, thanks Daz, I was wondering wtf pearl harbour colours had to do with Spitfires, sounds like a truly terrible bit of hollywood garbage
By: DazDaMan - 28th April 2013 at 12:38
that film was awful but the flying was worth watching. Which Spits were used in it? I know there the sea hurricane stuck in there.
Spit Vs BM597 (RF-C), EP120 (RF-M), AR501 (RF-Y) and VIIIc MV154 (RF-T).
TFC’s Hurricane also snuck in for a couple of scenes – and is the only one painted in the correct “Eagle” Squadron colours!
As if that wasn’t enough, the plan was originally to use an authentic Bf109E (owned by David Price at the time) and have it fly against a Spitfire XIV! (NH904)

The cannon armed one in Pearl Harbour colours – its not a MK V and its tail is massive. Cant figure out which a/c it is. Ideas?

Pearl Harbour Colours?, what are they? and why would a Spitfire be painted in them?
Could you be specific on which picture you are referring to,
cheers DWD

MT928 by my reckoning. A Mark VIII.

Thats why I’m against hanging them from the ceiling. How do they clean them?

RE: Which Spitfire is this?
Hi all
One thing I noticed straight away was that it has “C Type” cannons but arranged like an E wing.
The cannon should be inboard of the stub and not outboard like it is!
Cheers

RE: Which Spitfire is this?
I would have thought that the serial number would have nailed this craft down specifically, with the concise manner of records that are kept these days. Just a couple of points from someone who’s no Spitfire expert. Mark II’s and V’s had three bladed props, didn’t they with Mark IX’s having four? For my money, its a FSM – I don’t think the underside is as well executed as the topsides.
