Hey folks,
Bit of a strange question, I think. I have been opening a lot of old aircraft part packages from the 40s and 50s and every now and again I’ll open one in which whatever is inside is covered in a white powder. At first I thought it might have something to do with old rubber but I am finding it on items without rubber now. The next assumption is that they are packed like this with talc or something similar? Just checking its nothing to worry about as these are from the era when things like asbestos was thought to be just hunky dory! 😮

I’ve been viewing old Air Ministry films from the 40’s onwards and some cover packaging of spares etc and they used French Chalk on rubber items like inner tubes etc. Desiccant sachets were also placed into packing cases – maybe the remains of that?
