Who has the longest part 2

A few months ago i post here about which airfield had the longest runway.After Area 51 most of us thought it was Edwards AFB.But how wrong we were it doesnt even come close to the longest as i found out on another forum.They are as follows :

Vostochny (Russia) 16404 ft
Gavia (Bravil) 16295 ft
Upington (South Africa) 16076 ft
Harare (Zimbabwae) 15502 ft
Kinshasha Ndjili (Congo) 15420 ft
Mafikeng (South Africa) 15158 ft
Hawange National Park (Zimbabwe) 15091 ft
Edwards AFB (USA) 15013 ft

i remember that prog about th 777 development – it was gr8 n i’d love to watch it again if its on Discovery anytime!!

saw a programe about the boeing 777 in 1995 and when they tested the aircraft down the runway without taking off from start-max speed to stop i think they said the runway was either 23,000 feet or 29,000 feet somewhere in a desert in the usa.

As paved runways go, the one at Ulyanovsk-Vostochny (or Ulyanovsk-East) referred to above isn´t really all that special. There are plenty runways with lengths above 5 km: the Russians have built them at Templin, Zhukovskii, Akhtubinsk, to name a few.

This would be a PAVED runway. Edwards also has Muroc drylake which offer something like 5+ miles of landing surface. While many drylakes, country roads, etc. can claim to offer long landing surface, Edwards Muroc lake is ment to be used for operations.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-11-02 AT 03:33 PM (GMT)]This is old…currently worlds longest runway is of the new airport Bangda in Tibet…its runway is 18,045 ft.
The runway was opened in October this year.
