OK so what aircraft are these paratroops about to exit?
Its been scanned from an old report at work hence the poor quality.
Extra points if you can name anyone. 😀

Hmm, What they should’ve fitted to V bombers, but was decided to be too expensive.
I was just thinking that as the comment suggests that they are rearward facing

“After you.”
“No, after you”
“No, no, after you I insist”…

BallyKellyBrat is close enough for me, its was a Hudson III (V9228). They got 8 paratroops on that slide – cosy.
Well thats me run out of oddball parachuting aircraft pictures.
The Lincoln ones are a bit too obvious, whilst the parachuting from Hotspur glider photos were poor quality even before they were photocopied. However I’ll finish with this photo from a Martin Baker brochure which I think the forum will enjoy.

Well done Vildebeast, why didn’t that guess come sooner!
Hmm an aircraft with a slide in it, wonder what that was for?
Looks a bit like a Skyvan, but gussing its older than that.

DH95 Flamingo?

Vildebeast has it, the Avro York it is MW132 to be precise. The paras are jumping from the door under the wings rather than the cargo door to the rear. MW132 was also the York used by AFEE for glider towing trials.

I’m scraping the barrel to keep this thread goin but here is another (poor quality) photocopied report figure. Yes they did intend the parachutists to use the slide but what is the aircraft?

Creaking Door has it. The Bristol Belvedere it is. Tested at Boscombe Down in October 1962.
Here’s another tease along the same lines.
To put Scouse out of his misery, the Lancaster (R5660 was used for the trials) was given a clearance by the AFEE to drop paratroops in December 1942. Strange though its seems the Manchester (L7392) was given a similar clearance later the same month based partly on the results of the Lancaster’s trials.
First thought Bristol 170 Freighter though the door is wrong more like a Bombay.

You might have to put us out of our miserys, I’m struggling to find anything British that fits the bill. The size and slab sides could suggest a Beverley, but the door shape is wrong.

Ant Harrington is thinking along the right lines but still not quite there.
As for Lancasters being used for heavy supply drop I have references to (and very poor photograph in a book) for a B1 Special Lanc dropping a Boom Patrol Boat (a British copy of the Italian exploding motor boat) by parachute with its crew inside. 😮 I even know the name of the chap inside, a Lt Cox who was an early member of the SBS when they were known as the Boom Patrol Detachment.

Guys can I suggest a little more thought when guessing, how on earth can that be the interior of a Shackleton, Auster or Whitley, look at the design and size of the interior and the slab sides:rolleyes:

Bristol Bombay??
By: Ant.H - 28th August 2008 at 00:43
Avro Shackleton? I’m basing this guess on the door shape and aeronut’s comments about parts related to the Argosy- IIRC the first Argosy’s were built with wings derived from those on the Shackleton.
