Sandwiches, coffee…..’hot cans’! I really think you’re letting the side down a bit for Old Warden!
Next year I shall expect you to enter into the spirit of things; white linen tablecloth (ironed), china plates, crystal glasses, silver cutlery…..and food to match!
Ah but to do it properly I would have to get my 1965 Rochdale Olympic restored and unfortunately there isn’t mucjh chance of that happening any time soon

Cucumber sandwiches and chilled champagne. Easy on the sandwiches though….

It could be a lot worse. If there were no Old Warden at all that really would be the end of the world as far as I am concerned.
Next years end of season display looks like something to look forward to and with no Vulcan I will probably be able to get a hot lunch meaning Old Warden will be able to relieve me of more money so everyone wins!

You’ve got a point there, WJ, my sympathies…I can see how a bit of hot grub would have made a difference. The queues were fearsome! I came across ‘hot cans’ many years ago. Pull the tab, chemical reaction on outside of the can, a few mins later, a tin of hot grub. Probably been banned by the EU due to ‘Section 44, foodstuffs potentially hazardous to health if you are a complete moron’.

WJ, next time would you be able to take your own food? I picked up a ready to go sealed salad and croutons from the supermarket, with a flask of coffee. And some sandwiches for back up! Although I didn’t contribute to OW funds, I’m content, looking at the brisk business, they’ll have done ok.
I could have taken my own food but I have to put up with sandwiches all week and it is too late for hot food when I get back from Old Warden as I have to get up at 5.30AM for work so that I can escape this awful island my other half insists we must live on before the traffic becomes gridlocked.
I am sure OW did OK from the catering on Sunday but with a little more effort and thought they could have done even better than OK and scored major customer service points as well. The OW estate caters for weddings etc so they should have been able to plan to cater properly for the likely demand for food on the day.

The Husky on amphibs belongs to Pete Kynsey and Anna Walker. I believe they use it to give dual floatplane instruction in.

Very nice – I think I ran out of ISO by the time the Edwardians were out, certainly for the Dep.
It definitely wasn’t you – this guy looked as though he’d eaten a prop forward for lunch, then finished off the hooker for afters!

Since people asked, here are a few of mine. I’ve only just taken them off my camera so apologies for the rough-round-the-edges nature of some of them!
That’s my ugly mug with R4118…

(By the way, I don’t think I’m the huge bloke in question…but if so, my apologies!)
From the angle, you were further over, you’re OK!

Must admit I thought it was some kind of Piper Cub derivative!

If you were stood next to someone with a camera on an aluminium shoulder stock…

Yes, I tried to get the floatplane lifting off, but my viewpoint was limited by a huge bloke in front of me.

Snap, I wonder if it was the same bloke? I got a good sharp image……..of half of it

A note to myself to always check what’s waiting for take-off at the end of the strip – having left my camera with a friend I was walking to the nearest ‘thunderbox’ to shake hands with the Devil when the Christen Husky started it’s run. How many chances in life do you get to see a floatplane taking off from land in the middle of Bedfordshire?
As Homer would say- doh!

Thanks for posting those pictures – I was gutted to miss the display but was sadly out of the country at the time, on an enforced holiday by my other half.
If anyone has any more photos, please don’t hesitate to post!!

A few of my shots from the show (More in the airshow photography section God willing)

A thoroughly enjoyable show, hats off to all those who enable it to happen, from administration to the pilots who put on a great display!

No cars or angry motorists were involved as have been suggested. Site transport and pedestrians crossed paths next to the fire and rescue crews and a policemen who dealt with things quickly and efficiently. There was no drama and nothing worthy of media coverage.
Ah OK we thought that might have been what it was and not too surprising given the amount of things to look at in the air easy to get distracted. Looked to be a first class response for the emergency services and the site team. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to those involved.
Arguably the best show I’ve been to in a long while so I’ll be looking forward to next year.
