Who's Behind The Mask?

Despite spending many years going to shows like Legends and getting to know the names and faces of many of the pilots,I always find it near impossible to identify who is flying what when they’ve got thier flying garb on in the cockpit.I know these guys (and gals) don’t crave publicity, and that the machines they fly are always the stars, but all the same it’s nice to know who’s flying the machine you’re watching.
I know a number of other forumites feel the same way,so I thought I’d share this link I’ve just come across with you.I have to admit some of these faces were completely unknown to me,in the cockpit or otherwise.Although the photo’s have no captions, you can place your cursor over the thumbnail and it comes up with the name of the pilot in the photo.

I believe the display commentator should always say who’s flying, they tend to in the US, and I feel it in some ways it makes you more involved, with the whole display. There was a trend at North Weald and West malling a few years ago to feature the pilots in the programme, but this does not seem to happen so much these days.

The same is true of a friendly wave from the pilot as he taxies past, that sort of thing can go a long way, and in a small way makes the day more enjoyable.

Lastly to know who’s flying makes any future research or archiving that much easier.

Septic.

I guess that if you display warbirds at Airshows then having your picture taken by many thousands of people is part of the job.

The Boundary gets crossed when your photo gets taken away from an airfield when you are carrying out your own private business. Thankfully Pilots arent Celeb enough to get papped 😀 (but dont tell em that!!!)

I wonder how those pilots feel about having their photos on that site?

Yes that brings across an interesting thought,i would think that if you are in the public domain you would have a hard time NOT being photographed [sitting or standing next to a warbird] and therefore probably would’nt have too much to say about it,BUT having the photos put onto a public website MAY be a different matter.
How many threads on here have photos put on [with or without ] the photographers/participants permission and pictures of the planes/pilots without their consent.
Goodwill and common sense is needed on both sides and i would assume as long as no-one is being abused/done down or shown in a bad way common sense should prevail.
Personally if i was flying a warbird i would be dead chuffed to have photos taken of it.
