Just thought I would remind everyone about the “Wings and Wheels” event on Sunday 27th at Dunsfold, Surrey !
Official Website: Wings and Wheels

Forgot to add … how about a forum meet in front of the Vimy at 2.30pm (during one of the motoring displays) ?
Sounds fine to me.
And thanks for the pics.
I saw the Hunter en route this afternoon. Snuck in just behind Haslemere and looked like the black two seater G-VETA rather than the FG9.
Also heard the DoB B25 on the airband and saw our very own Melvin Hiscock in his Rearwin south abeam en route back to Popham.
I think that prior to leaving, he called for a run in & break. 😀
Cheers
Paul

Peter Vacher’s Hurricane Mk.1
Thanks!
Just heard the Dunsfold controller saying that the Hunter is due to arrive in 20 minutes. 🙂
Cheers

Current display list and timings are the same as on the current website. The only real change has been the loss of the Sea Hawk because currently there’s no way to start the aircraft.
Provisionally, BBMF, Hawk and Tucano won’t be operating from Dunsfold and will be touring acts – A pair of Harriers is due to finish the show with the spare landing prior to the display ship going straight into his show before landing. The Hunter FGA9 looks to be operating from Dunsfold however and should be a grand sight.
Thanks for that airshowsorguk.
I was hoping for maybe one or too more Warbirds but I guess that’s being greedy! Btw, do you know who’s Hurricane it is that’s been booked?
I was hoping the BBMF would land the Spits there like last year (the Lanc flew straight in for it’s display) as it seems it is the only show they are booked for. Lee Howard says that the Sea Fury should be landing if all goes to plan.
Oh, and a forum meet sounds fine to me!
Cheers
Paul

Btw, I’ve been keeping an eye on the Wings & Wheels site and the list of participants is pretty much the same as it was when it was first put up. Are they any additions to it that you are allowed to tell us about Melv or should we just wait and see?

I’ll be there too, as my Grandad has already booked the Veterans tickets which means he and someone else gets in for £20 plus have the use of a flightline enclosure and designated parking! 🙂
Maybe this is something other shows should consider! 😉
I enjoyed last years event (despite the weather being a touch like it has been for the past two weeks) and though the motoring part was a nice touch.
With the plans to turn this historic site into a ‘small town’, this could well be the last show that is held there, so it might be a good idea to come to one of the few Home Counties airfields that still exists. 🙁

i would have been going, but the health and safety NAZI’S have stopped us from running the bike and car sprint/speed demo.it seems that it’s acceptable for an aeroplane to fly towards the crowd, go out of control an smash into the massed ranks of admiring public, and not for me to ride away from the crowd, in a cloud of two stroke smoke and approach a speed of 80 mph.in complete safety.
it’s a shame really as any forumites would have been made more than welcome in the paddock.

Just for the record the UK Airshow accident to kill any member of the public was on 6th September 1952, at Farnborough Airshow 27 people died and 63 injured, Among those who lost thier lives were Test Pilot John Derry and Flight observer Anthony Richards, The DH110 broke up and sadly its engines landed in the crowd.
Thats 54 Years ago now, Thats a really good record in my oppinion and shows that our safety stardards are very high here,Yes accidents sadly do happen but thankfully they are pretty rare and have not involved members of the public.

Will be there for sure – always willing to support a local show.
It’s shame about the developments, but I’m sure it’ll give the “difficult” residents something else to moan about with continuous construction traffic in the area for the next few years. May make them think they make the wrong decisions to moan about Mowing, Top Gear and “excessive aircraft noise” over the last few years!!!
Sadly, I don’t think there’s the demand for the Aerodrome. There never really attracted that much traffic about during the week. Thankfully we still have the delightful Redhill Aerodrome and Fairoaks in Surrey. Popham’s not too far either.

Dunsfold – the facts
Please let me as motoring controller for Wings & Wheels at Dunsfold ensure that there is no confusion: we will be running historic and modern cars and bikes on the runway in two sessions during the day. These vehicles include ancient and modern Formula 1 cars, half-a-dozen aeroplane-engined cars, dozens of racing motorcycles, and both modern supercars and modern superbikes. There are no speed restrictions on the runway, and we are quite satisfied that the drivers/riders will demonstrate these fabulous machines to their full potential – many of the vehicles running are capable of exceeding the unstick speeds of most of the aircraft taking part in the flying display well within the runway length available… They will, of course, be conforming to the appropriate standards of safety, just as the flying display aircraft will be conforming to theirs, but that will not harm the motoring spectacle any more than the air display rules damage the flying display. (There will also be a motorcycle parade circuit on which dozens of bikes will be demonstrated at more modest speeds so that spectators can get closer to the machines than they can during the runway demonstrations.) It will be a fantastic day out for anybody interested in cars, bikes or aircraft. The reasons why we had to pull the planned motorcycle sprint part of this particular event are complex, but our plans to run such events in the future at Dunsfold are not helped by some of the comments posted here so far – please heed Melvyn’s wise words, and come and enjoy Wings & Wheels on Sunday.

Since when has it been acceptable to crash? It’s news to me….
It’s an air display, not a fugging bike show! If I wanted to see motorcyclists trying to break the sound barrier, I’d spend more time on the M25!
Can anyone tell me when the bikes/cars are due on, as I’d like to go for a nap..
See you there

only relaying what has been told to us as a club.i assume the bikes and cars from brooklands are being demonstrated, albeit slowly and in a safe manner so as not to upset anybody.
karl
I think it would be much better for everyone if you were to keep your opinions to yourself, stop publishing information ‘that you had been told as a club’ AND get your information about the relative safety of various events correct.

Just for interest, when was the last crowd fatality at an motorcycling event?
